Lucy walked into the diner the next day to work. She saw Ms. Smith already eating. After an hour or so of working, the bell to the door rung as two men walked in; one brunette the other blond. Lucy glanced up to see Steve with who she assumed was Bucky.

"So where's this 'diner dame' you spoke of?" The brunette questioned. Steve looked around to see Lucy at the counter putting together two drinks. She looked up again from what she had been focused on, pretending to now notice the two.

"Hi, Steve," she greeted a smile forming on her red painted lips. Bucky looked over to the brunette female, his eyes widening. Steve noticed his friend gawking but pat him on the back before turning toward the counter, going to sit on a stool. Bucky followed still in awe. Lucy placed two mugs of hot chocolate on the counter in front of the two males — cinnamon on top of whipped cream in both drinks.

"Afternoon, Lucy," Steve greeted taking a sip of the hot cocoa. "I'd like to introduce you to-"

"Oo, don't tell me, let me guess... James?" Steve smiled, chuckling.

"Most people call me Bucky," the brunette spoke holding his hand out.

Lucy shook his hand introducing herself, "Lucy Stark."

After a few days of talking and hanging out, Steve and Bucky became best friends with Lucy. The waitress met Steve's mother, complimenting them on how much they look alike. That night after Lucy went home, Steve's mother spoke of how much she adored Lucy and that she is a good friend for Steve.

-1936-

The date was June 7. Two days after Sarah Rogers' death of tuberculosis. A funeral was being held for the woman. Bucky attended with his family, Lucy going alone, but both going to support and be there for Steve. When both brunettes got to the funeral, they both stayed with Steve. People entered the chapel. Lucy looked around, being the first out of her and Bucky to arrive. She spotted Steve sitting in the first pew head in his hands. Walking over, Lucy sat next to the blond, pulling him into a side hug when she heard a slightly muffled cry.

"It's alright, Steve," she spoke as she began to rub his back in a soothing way. "Bucky and I will be here for you. Always."

"Till the end of the line," Bucky's voice said as he stood in front of the two. Steve rubbed his eyes before looking up at his friends, giving them a weak smile. When the service was over, Steve got up and left. Lucy figured he went home, but still followed him with Bucky.

-1941-

The Second World War had started in 1939. America has yet to be involved in the war, though the country is trying their best not to be included. Lucy began working for a group called the Strategic Scientific Reserve or S.S.R. becoming an Agent for the company. She had gone through training after the war began to soon become an assassin for the group, being trained with firearms, knives, you name it. She worked for them on the weekdays seeing that she worked at the diner on the weekends.

-1942-

America had been included in the war after an attack on Pearl Harbor by the Japanese. Bucky enlisted into the army, gaining the rank of Sergeant. Steve, being the only one out of the small group of friends who hadn't tried enlisting began trying after Bucky accepted. Even though he nor Bucky didn't know about Lucy's job with the S.S.R., he tried about five times to enlist but failed each time. After the fifth time, Steve began to get beat up in an alley after trying to get a guy to be quiet when seeing a movie. Lucy walked on the sidewalk with Bucky. He had walked into the diner when the waitresses shift was over, getting her to find Steve for the double date he set up for their blond friend. Lucy denied when Bucky asked if she wanted to go with one of his friends. Both brunette friends heard a commotion coming from an alley, walking down it to see a guy beating up a small blond who was recognized to be Steve. Bucky passed the newspaper in his hand over to Lucy as he walked toward the bully, pulling him back slightly.
