Lucy had gone back to Camp Lehigh after she left the Expo. She wondered about Steve and his attempt of being enlisted. She changed into her uniform which was the army green skirt and jacket with a tan blouse. She fixed her hair into a braid before leaving her bunker which she shared with Agent Peggy Carter. Lucy went to speak with Howard.
"Hey Howard," she greeted. He looked up from his work.
"Morning Lucky. Hey, I didn't see you last night."
"Yeah, I went with Bucky and Steve. What are you working on?"
"I'm trying to see what went wrong with that car from last night. Must've been a wiring problem." Lucy giggled at the reminder of the failure.
"I will have to admit, I thought it was hilarious when I saw that happen." Howard gave his cousin a heartwarming smile.
"Of course you would." Lucy grinned, patting Howard on the shoulder.
"I should go look for Peggy."
"I think she's with the new recruits. Have a nice day, Agent."
"You too, Howard." Lucy walked around the camp until she heard Peggy's voice.
"Recruits, attention!" the Brit exclaimed. The line of recruits stood at attention as Peggy introduced herself. Lucy walked over in time to hear a recruit talking rudely to Peggy.
"What's with the accent, Queen Victoria?" he questioned. "Thought I was signing up for the U.S. Army."
"What's your name, soldier?" Lucy questioned as she stood next to Peggy catching the soldier's attention.
"Gilmore Hodge, Lady Liberty." Lucy looked to Peggy, a half-hearted smile on her face before looking back to the recruit.
"Step forward, Hodge. Put your right foot forward." He did as she said.
"Oh, we gon' wrestle? Cause I got a few moves I know you'll like." Hodge winked and smirked at Lucy which caused him to earn a punch in the face by her. She let out a breath of air as the recruits chuckled. Lucy looked down the line to see Steve as he smiled. An army jeep pulled up behind Lucy and Peggy as Colonel Chester Phillips and Doctor Erskine got out.
"Agent Stark, Agent Carter," the Colonel said. Lucy and Peggy gave him a quick salute.
"Colonel Phillips," she and Peggy greeted.
"I see you're breaking in the new candidates, that's good." He looked down to Hodge who was still on the ground. "Get your ass up out of that dirt, and stand in the line in attention until someone comes and tells you what to do."
"Yes sir," Hodge spoke. The Colonel was silent for a few seconds. Lucy walked over to Doctor Erskine to speak with him.
"You accepted Steve?" she questioned the doctor.
"Yes," he spoke, not saying anything else due to Colonel Phillips beginning to speak as he walked up and down the line.
"General Paton has said, Wars are fought with weapons, but they are won by men. We are going to win this war because we have the best men..." He stopped for a second when he saw Steve. Lucy, Peggy, and Erskine looked at the Colonel as he looked to them before continuing with his speech. "And because they're going to get better. Much better. The Strategic Scientific Reserve is an allied effort made up of the best minds of the free world. Our goal is to create the best army in history, but every army starts with one man. At the end of this week, we will choose that man. He'll be the first of a new breed of Super Soldiers. And they will personally escort Adolf Hitler to the gates of Hell."
