Sitting at the very edge of the thick branch the girl exhaled heavily through her nose, sharp canines occasionally drawing dull blood from her lips with every small, nervous nibble. The moon was shining brightly in the dark sky, a bouquet of clouds enveloping the round star in a thick swirl.

The wind howled before falling silent for another few long seconds that allowed the girl to gaze at the distant mountains before the breeze picked up again and shielded them with a thick misty coat.

"There you are." She didn't even flinch at the voice that suddenly appeared next to her, the branch giving a small squeak as another weight settled on the piece of wood. "I've been looking for you everywhere Mirai."

"The view here is beautiful..." Mirai simply answered back, tearing her gaze away only for a second to look at her sister. "It's quiet out here, unlike there, with all that screaming and growling that echoes everywhere, scaring all the birds and warms."

The girl next to her huffed in irritation "I wait for the day you stop speaking in poems."

Mirai didn't answer to that, her eyes falling onto the steep end of the hill that stretched under them. "Where is this all leading to Natsuo?"

Natsuo raised her eyebrow "What do you mean?"

Mirai stood up, her bare feet sliding across the wood with ease as the branch let out another long squeak. Turning her body fully to her sister she was greeted with a face that was nearly identical to her own. Asian facial features, skin as pale as a sheet of paper and ruby red eyes delicately shielded with a monolid. Her twin looked back at Mirai with a  slightly worried gaze.

"We've been living like this for God knows how long…but are we even alive?" Mirai asked.

"Well…vampires may have weak beating hearts but I assure you that since you're moving-"

"No." The girl cut her twin sister off, her eyes shut tightly with a pained expression. "I'm not talking about that kind of alive. We've been in hiding for so long…nobody is aware of our existence. I just feel like…im a ghost…"

She looked to the side, once again staring at the distant clouds of mist that smudged over the scenery like water over a wet painting. "I've been blessed with eternal life and yet I feel like I've already died..."

Her face was soon enveloped by her sister's cold hands, making her look at the twin. "As long as I am here and you're with me life will always surge through our veins, because you're my world, and I hope I am yours too,  " Natsuo stated in a surprisingly heartfelt tone that the other twin was not used to hearing.

It didn't tale long after that statement for tears to start streaming down Mirais face in thick drops. "…of course you are…y-you were there when nobody was…"

"Aw come on. You were always such a crybaby, come here." Natsuo sneaked her arm around the other vampire's body, catching her in a gentle hug. As she felt her twins breathing slowly calm down, Natsuo retracted her body and lightly wiped the tears off Mirai's face. "We should return … elder Horus will be back soon."

"Yeah…" Their light, summer-like clothing danced with the wind in a calming monotone manner,  fabrics grey colors blending in with the dark scenery around them, copying its slow rhythm.

Ghosts amongst the old rusty trees.

The chest pieces moved across the board with lightning speed, two players taking no more than a few seconds to think of their next move.

Clare glanced down at the pieces she had left with a scowl on her pale, wrinkly face. "Gah…its been seventy years and the outcome is still the fucking same…"
