The stillness of the world hummed back to the hunched over figures of the witch and the vampire.
In that grayish, calm atmosphere filled with nothing but rustling of leaves Owls' eyes slowly cracked open. His head felt light and there was an uncomfortable stiffness on his face accompanied by the dull smell of smoke. He couldn't feel his shoulder but a small tingle at the base of his throat told him that some of the flesh began pulling and connecting into itself. It was regenerating, although extremely slowly and not very effectively.
His gaze drifted to the side and his eyes widened seeing Amare next to him looking almost as tired as he was. The witch's hair was all over her face, sweat running down her face and neck in large beads that dripped down with her heavy breathing. She was paler, her knuckles almost white as she gripped her staff that was buried in the ground, helping the female not topple over.
"Hey..." His voice came out quiet and scratchy, the man's purplish lips almost not moving with the word.
She jumped and looked at him with a shocked face before a wave of relief washed over her entire being. "Owl! I'm so glad you're okay!" Her voice was also damaged. Has she been screaming?
"What...happened. Did the sun burn me?" He muttered, moving his face muscles a little bit and feeling the unsettling pull on his skin caused by the slightly sizzling gashes.
"Yeah. But I f-fixed it so don't worry." It looked painful for her to even talk.
"What? How?"
She chuckled before hanging her head low and spitting out blood onto the grass. "...With my power, I managed to pull the clouds back so they covered the sun," Amare stated, pausing a couple of times when the blood crept back up to the top of her throat. She didn't want to vomit mid-sentence.
"Y-you. What-!" Owl looked up at the sky with disbelief. "I...dont know a lot about witches but I don't t-think a rookie like you should do something like that." He gulped. "Let alone be able to..."
With another spit of blood, all the female could muster was a quiet: "Yeah." Followed by a groan of pain as the power connecting her to her staff strained painfully.
"Hey don't pass out on me-" the male looked like he wanted to move closer but a shot of unbearable pain halted him in his tracks almost immediately.
The trees around them swooned as somebody's footsteps invaded the silence around the vampire and the witch. The footsteps were light, a pair of bare feet moving across the deep green grass towards them in quick swoops.
Both creatures immediately looked up with wide eyes.
A woman was standing in front of them. More precisely a witch. With two twisty horns at the sides of her head, long frizzy hair in the shade of the setting sun, and three large eyes of green pupils. Her body was hugged by a puffy sweater that matched her eyes and a brown pair of shorts. Pockets of the pants filled to the brim with various, small bottles and packs of what Owl assumed were herbs. A thin layer of sweat was covering her deep, brown skin as she stared at the two creatures, twisting her green staff between her fingers in clear nervousness.
"E-Enki?" Amare questioned pointing at the other woman. "Enki was your name, was it? You were a witch from the Ki branch! I'm so glad someone managed to find us-"
The violet haired woman tried to get closer but immediately stopped once Enki moved away, giving her a pointed look.
"Why are you traveling with a vampire? W-Why did you fight together?" Her voice was strained. A mix of disbelief, anger, and disgust painting her features. All three of her eyes darting towards the male next to Amare with worry as if he was a feral animal.
