The whole world seemed to stand still as Dietys feet moved gracefully across the cold, marble floors of the church, creating nothing but a faint echo of shuffling clothing, the breezy gown she wore sliding across the ground, trailing behind her like a snake. The building itself was well kept, probably a job of your servants Beryl and Salmo who seemed to have a great understanding of how to keep these kinds of places clean even if they are without use.
Diety really wasn't expecting expecting to find a structure like that anywhere near your castle and yet the sheer vastness and variety of the different structures forming your home were mind-boggling. Beryl briefly told her about it in a passive conversation they had in the hallway one morning. He said it was still standing at the back of the castle after the king which lived there wanted to be baptized.
Her eyes skimmed over the rows of benches propped by the slick walls of the chapel and the stone statues representing different Saints which were gingerly attached to the columns. Diety put her neck back and looked up at the paintings of angels decorating the ceiling, at that point some of the paint began to chip off which just added to the quite melancholy feeling the whole place radiated.
It was clean and well taken care of but still ghostly and largely empty.
Dietys gaze was pulled right ahead, to the large stone table, cast over with a white sheet. Up above it was a golden case attached to the wall with a tiny viewing window embedded in the costly material. It was however empty. Around the table stood many empty vases and a tall candle holder, also not in use. Everything was empty.
The moonlight softly reflected through the multi-colored windows, making its rays split into different shades and particles that were all looming completely still over the whole room. The vampires' arrival seemed to go entirely unnoticed by the atmosphere of the place
Diety exhaled deeply and looked up at the slim cross, attached right above the golden box. It was not overly decorated, just two simple plates made off a brownish-gold metal, connected together into a symbol. As if on command the vampire's fingers laced together as she hung her head low, hunching over her figure in front of the cross in a small bow.
Prayer was something Diety was never particularly good at, other things usually distracted her. Yet at that moment it was like she was in complete sink with the chapel, she connected with its stillness, its dying melancholy.
Maybe because to an extent she was dead herself.
"And what are you doing here in the middle of the night sugar lips?" A familiar voice called out to Diety from behind her, making the woman slowly open her eyes and glance back.
Whine was standing there with her usual cunning smile. A grin with a mixture of a smirk to it that always made you wonder if she was laughing with you or at you. The oversized colorful coat hugged her toned body like a loose shield, the vampires ruby eyes staring at Diety from behind the curtain of paperwhite dreadlocks that sprung up from her head and chaotically dripped down to her shoulders. She was barefoot like she usually is, making her moves more stealthy and quiet.
"Whine." Diety simply said, straightening up from her bow like position to fully turn herself around.
"On your command your Highness." She did a playful half-bow, flashing the female her full set of pearl whites as her colorful coat spun around her frame like a peacock unveiling its tail.
Diety laughed a bit under her breath.
"So. Why here exactly? Scratch that I know why you're here, I honestly shouldn't be surprised by it anymore." She pulled back her dreadlocks, chuckling at her own snarky remark.
The other woman was used to it though, and honestly, she couldn't say she was annoyed by Whines cocky attitude. She kind of enjoyed it.
"Honestly I don't know why you bother praying when your own personal goddess is right here." She stretched out her arms in front of Diety. "I can make you feel better right away."
"Oh? Is that so?" The long-haired woman chuckled getting back only a playful smirk from the other.
"You know I don't really see a point in all of this. I feel like you're limiting yourself in these kinds of primitive ideas." Despite her harsh words, Whine's attitude stayed neutral to the environment around her, observing the various relics with a passive curiosity.
"It gives me hope," Diety responded after a second of silence."It gives me hope that God will be merciful on me and everything that I love and cherish."
Whine pursed her lips. "And how do you know they are merciful?" She plopped down onto the backrest of one of the benches. "I'm going to be honest sugar lips but I think we place too many expectations on God to be this amazing savior. Maybe they are like...a whiny brat?"
"Like you are?" Diety bit back playfully making the other woman let out a fake gasp of shock and offense as she grasped her chest dramatically. "If that were the case then the world would be in a complete state is chaos." With that little anecdote, she turned around and laced her fingers back together, her eyes moving back up towards the cross. "If they are merciful or they aren't, I still want to thank them for the good fate they bestowed upon me."
"Do you think fate is something God chooses for us?" Whine asked, tilting her head to the side.
The albino stayed silent for a few seconds before leaning her skull back and glancing at the other woman. "And what do you think Whine?"
"I think things happen at random. Sure we might have some control over the things we do but we don't ever fully realize the consequences of them until they happen."
A smile spread across Dietys face. "And do you believe that us meeting for the first time was a mere coincidence, and my love for you is something that might have not happened? That we weren't destined to be together until the end of time?"
Whine looked at the other woman surprised before a short laugh slipped past her lips. She jumped down onto the ground from her place on the bench and took long, rhythmic strides toward the albino. "When you say it like that, it does sound more romantic." Her sharp eyes slid across Dietys frame. "After all that's how belief works. It adds flavor and beauty to an otherwise bleak world."
Whines arms wrapped around Dietys waist as she brought the other woman closer to herself. They were both the same height, their faces directly opposite each other as their slow, cold breaths mixed together in the middle.
"And love also does that. It makes everything so much more vivid and alive." Whine whispered, flashing her sharp canines as her lips curled into a smirk that made the others heart pound ever so slightly in her chest.
Diety didn't consider herself to like snarky personalities, often dismissing them as mean spirited when they shone through other people. But when it came to Whine she could get enough of it. There was just something different about that sharp and playful glint in her eyes that she didn't see in any other person.
One of Whines' hands traveled up and cupped Dietys cheek before moving further and threading her fingers through the others long, white locks. "To be honest it is satisfying to think that God themself sculpted you with their bare fingers, and then decided that you were going to be mine for the rest of eternity."
The long-haired woman laughed through her nose, cupping her wife's face, feeling the others pale dreadlocks tickle her palms. "Likewise."
An all too familiar look of mischief carved itself deeper in Whines expression, her pale face moving closer to the others. "But you know, if that God of yours ever fails you, I will be here to make it up to you any time."
Diety didn't have time to respond as the vampire's cold lips pressed against hers, unmoving and stiff but so soft and delightful at the same time. The woman's arms curled around Whines' broad shoulders as the other pressed her closer by the waist.
And just like the cathedral around them, they stood completely still. Like statues formed out of marble white, so dead so unmoving yet still so alive.
