The moth man lamented under the feet of the cut-down trees. For the last five minutes, Clare tried to drag him away from the wooden corpse but he wouldn't budge, drops of tears streaming from his large beady eyes.
"Oh come on stop being such a cry baby..." The old-looking albino muttered, tapping her foot against the ground why dry impatience.
The male just kept wailing, pressing his body against the bark like he was holding the corpse of his dead child.
Clare felt a tug on the side of her skirt, Eunice pulling on the material but not gazing away from the moth male. The tiny vampire had a sour expression of pity painted on her features.
"It's alright Clare. Just let him take all of it out."
The taller vampire sighed but in the end, nodded her head passively. "Whatever."
The night was still deep and dark, the faint outline of the moon carving through the misty clouds, small specs of light littering the murky canvas that stretched well above the tall trees. The lack of those wooden giants made it easier for Clare to look up and admire the rich sky.
Eunice unlike her friend didn't want to just stand around and watch the other creature bowl his eyes out. She wandered over to the male, pressing her palm against the blade binding his hands and breaking it into pieces. The shimmering dagger crumbling to bits at her feet.
"Oh." The moth male perked up looking at his free hands with surprise before falling back onto the wooden plank and continuing to wail sadly.
The small female exhaled loudly before smoothing out her white dress and sitting down onto the ground next to the other creature. Lifting her palm up she slowly rubbed his back.
"It's an alright dude, more trees are going to grow in no time." She coaxed.
"B-But these ones were so-special..." He cried bitterly. Both males carrased the rugged wood with his palm in a tender manner. Tracing the ringed patterns. "This one especially..."
"Why is that?"
"I was born here..." He sniffled.
Eunice's eyes widened. "What? Like, in the tree?"
"No...in an egg...that was attached to a tree..." He whispered.
"In an egg?" The vampire exclaimed in confusion. "I thought it would be more like a cacoon."
"I'm not a butterfly!" The moth male shouted through tears but the anger faded away quickly and he once again pressed his frame against the tree. "Oh, what destruction... Not only my house but the houses of so many other animals and creatures. The poor birds, squirrels, and bugs..."
Eunice pressed her lips together before asking with knitted eyebrows: "Do you know...what laid your egg...?"
"Why are you so stuck up on the egg thing! We have bigger problems to worry about!" He yelled, springing up to his feet. The light of the moon was just clear enough for a thin blade to materialize out of it in the male's hands. "I'm going to find those gigantic beasts that destroyed my homeland-"
"No. No, I don't think you will." Clare grumbled walking up to them, gripping the blade and lowering it down. "There is no use in attacking something that's not even alive."
"They are not alive?!" The moth man panicked "Oh for the mercy of the bright moon, they are dead but still moving!??"
"Relax." The old-looking vampire gripped the creatures fluffy head "They were not alive, to begin with. It's a machine, an object that due to its structure has the ability to be manipulated by a human into movement." Clare explained, making sure to precisely pronounce every word.
