Emily's POV

I'm home. Alone. Again. Adam has been on tour for the last three weeks or so and he comes back tomorrow morning. I'm super excited for him to be back. I miss him so much. We've called every day since he's been on tour but it's not the same. He's also been really busy working on his PhD. I fall asleep in my bed, excited for tomorrow. I wake up to the sound of sweet birds singing in the trees. I look at my phone and Adam texted me. 'When can I come over?' He asked. I replied. 'Now!' I was probably too excited and sleepy to actually think of a proper answer, but what can I say, I miss my boyfriend. He responds immediately. 'Ok I'm on my way.' I get all giddy and excited. I quickly get ready for the day, changing my clothes and doing my hair. I hear a knock at my door and I squeal. I go to open the door and I wrap my arms around Adam.
"Hey! How's it going?" Adam asks. I couldn't wipe the smile off my face if I tried.
"Better now that you're here." I say, pulling away from him to look at him. We go over to the couch in the living room and sit down.
"How have things been here?" He asks.
"Good. Same old stuff." I say. "So what are we going to do today?" I ask excitedly.
"Actually, I only came here for a little bit. I have to finish my homework for my PhD. It's already overdue and I can't stand it being late." He says. My face drops.
"Oh." I say disappointed. "Ok, I guess that's ok." I say, getting quieter and quieter.
"I'll stay for five minutes, then I'll leave, ok?" He says. I nod, leaning my head against him. I soak in these five minutes and then he starts pulling me off of him.
"I should get going. Lots of work to do." He says. I stay on the couch as he stands up and walks to the door. He puts on his coat and starts zipping it up. I start staring off into space, the stupid thoughts taking over my head. What if he doesn't love me. What if he's trying to get away from me. What if he's only hanging out with me because I want him to. What if-
"Emily?" He interrupts my thoughts. "You ok?" I crumpled up into a ball and my chest starts aching with pain. My heart rate is going through the roof. I feel like I'm going to pass out. I start hyperventilating. I start crying out of fear and Adam comes running over to me.
"Emily, hey, what's wrong?" He asks, kneeling down in front of me.
"I-I can't breathe!" I stutter out. "I-I feel like I'm gonna pass out." I say crying.
"Emily, hey, look at me. This is just a panic attack. You just need to relax your breathing and calm down." He says. I'm still hyperventilating like crazy. He sits beside me on the couch and I bury my head in his shoulder. He rests his head on mine and gives me a kiss.
"Just relax and get your breathing back. In for five, out for five."
"I c-can't!" I stutter out again.
"Shh, just relax." He says to me. "In for five, out for five." What felt like years went by as I tried to get my breathing back to normal. It eventually did, but I didn't move away from Adam. He was my safety in whatever just happened. He makes me feel so happy.
"You all better now?" He asks me gently. I nod, wiping the tears off my face.
"I'm so sorry." I say softly. "I'm sorry you had to see me like this."
"Em, it's ok. You can't control it, it's all good. How about I go grab my computer from downstairs and I work on my PhD right beside you. How does that sound?" He asks me. I smile.
"That would be wonderful." I say. He sits with me for a bit until he knew I was calmed down. Then he quickly went to grab his computer and came right back. He stayed with me all day. We ordered pizza for dinner, watched a movie and fell asleep.
