—Anything For You—

Maka Albarn but her lip. She crossed, and then uncrossed her legs. She creased her brow. “What's your problem Maka?” Soul Evans asked. He noticed all her fidgeting, and was getting extremely annoyed. “This one question is so hard!” She exclaimed, in a whispered voice. They were in the middle of Dr. Stein's classroom, taking a test. And at first Maka was cocky, but now she was just trying to get by. She had to pass. “Don't worry about it. Chill.” Soul leaned back in his chair without a care in the world. How can he be so chilled out? Maka thought. How can she be so tense? Soul thought.

Soul finished his test a his own leisured pace, and then soon enough Maka was done. She was excited. “Wanna go out and get some ice cream for celebration?” Maka asked. Soul checked his watch, and grimaced. I'm gonna be late for piano... Screw it. “Yeah.”

The duo walked to a nearby parlor. Soul had gotten vanilla, while Maka got strawberry. They chatted for awhile, when Maka got a phone call. “Hello?” Soul turned in his booth seat to try to hear the conversation. “Oh hi Mrs. Evans.” Soul froze in his seat. “Yes, yes, he's here.” Unintelligible things said from the other side of the line. “Oh yeah sure. Okay. Have a nice day Mrs. Evans.” Soul had covered his shock, with a blank expression, waiting for Maka to tell him something. “Your mom is worried Soul,” she said. “She said you wanted you to get home, and practice or something. I'm guessing she wants you to study more, am I right?”

Soul looked away, and got up quickly, swallowing the bile in his throat. He didn't want to go back home. He'd rather stay with Maka, eating ice cream, but some things just needed to be done.

“I'll see you later Maka. You should get going too, unless you wanna fail the next test,” he muttered under his breath. Maka gasped. “Oh my goodness, Soul! You're right! If I don't study, I'm going to lose to that loser Ox!” Maka sped off, and Soul left the parlor, chuckling to himself, but also dreading going home. Soul was terrified. But not only that.

He didn't know what waited for him at home.
