I stood in the doorway, bags in hand. I heard the click of footsteps on the tile floor approaching from behind me.

'Please don't be him... I can't bare to see him right now...' I thought as I turned around.

I spoke too soon. There he stood. The man I loved more than life, the one I had to leave. Mike Schmidt. He always acted so tough, but he wasn't.

"Mike..." I spoke softly, this hurt me as much as it hurt him.

"Doll..." His voice cracked, and he put his hand on my cheek. I leaned away from his touch, I didn't want to do this to him, but I had to. I shook my head as tears rolled down my face. He just looked at me with the most pained expression I have ever seen.

"I have to go..." my voice was close to failing me.

Mike fell to his knees, "Please... Please don't leave" he whispered, balling my shirt in his hands.

I looked at the promise ring he gave to me, as I held it in my hand. I don't wanna do this anymore. I don't want to go marry some rich guy because my family wants me to, because they paid me off to the other family. I took Mike's left hand, and opened it. I placed the ring in the palm of his hand, then closed it again.

I looked Mike in the eyes and spoke, "I will always love you."

His eyes widened, as I slowly backed up. When I was walking down the driveway I heard him yelling from inside, I never wanted to break his heart. I got into the Uber, and started the 2 hour drive to the airport.

-_-_-_-

I had to wait 2 hours until my flight once I got there. I sat down and checked my phone, 34 unread messages, and 14 missed calls. Only 1/2 of them being from Mike, the rest from Jeremy, who is someone Mike and I thought of as an 'almost son'. I decided to read Jeremy's messages first.

Almost Son: Hey, i'm coming over today

 Almost Son: Is everything okay?

Almost Son: The neighbors saw me and told me that they've been hearing yelling for a while from your house.

Almost Son: Why is Mike on the floor in front of the door?

Almost Son: Why aren't you answering?

Almost Son: I've tried calling you, so has mike.

Almost Son: He wont tell me why he's upset

 Almost Son: Where are you?

 Almost Son: please answer

 Almost Son: I'm scared

Almost Son: Mike told me what happened.

Almost Son: It took me 30 minutes to get him to talk

Almost Son: I don't want you to go either.

You couldn't read anymore of his texts, or else you'd cry even more. You decided to listen to the one voicemail he left.

"P- Please an- answer... Y- You don't n- need t- to leave... E-Everyone's gonna m- miss you! E-Especially M- Mike and I..." I listened to him as he stuttered. Poor Jeremy almost never stuttered around Mike and I anymore, and here he sounded so heart broken. I thought that was the end of the voice message, but then I heard: "P-please... M-Mom..." Jeremy whispered, and it shattered my heart.

'I made a mistake.' I thought, standing up.

I dialed my mother's number, and she answered moments later.

"Are you on the plane yet?" She asked.

"No, and I wont be getting on the plane." I said, sternly.

"Why not?! Your father and I payed hundreds of dollars for all of this!" She basically screamed in my ear.

"Because, I won't be happy. You can't force me to do anything." I said.

"(Y/N) (L/N), YOU WILL G-" I cut her off by hanging up and blocking her number.

Not even a minute later I was sprinting towards the exit. I ran outside, and called an Uber, as I had already sold my car.

-_-_-_-

It was now raining, as the Uber driver stopped in front of the house I had left almost 5 hours ago. I didn't care that I was getting rained on, as I slowly walked towards the door. I knocked on the door. As expected, Jeremy opened the door, and his jaw dropped.

"Y- Y- You..." he tried to find words, but I could tell he was happy, even if he was crying. "Y- You c- came b- back."

 "I'm sorry..." I whispered.

Jeremy enveloped me in a hug that I couldn't help but return. I heard footsteps approaching, as Jeremy let go of me. Jeremy turned around, and there stood Mike, in shock.

"Doll...?" He looked at me as if I was a figment of his imagination, but I nodded. Jeremy backed away, letting Mike have a moment.

"I thought, because my parents paid so much money for me to get married to some rich guy, it was my responsibility to do so. I only realized that I didn't need to, when I realized I couldn't leave what I have..." I said, looking to the floor.

"I thought you left me for a rich asshole." Mike mumbled, pulling me into his arms.

"I would never leave you and my almost son." I said, wrapping my arms around his waist.

 "Our almost son." Mike said.

You remembered Jeremy was there, and looked to him. "A- Almost son?" he asked.

"Well, duh. You're part of our family." I said, and pulled him into our hug.

I smiled, why would I ever leave this?
