(Multiverse red string of fate AU)
(Female pronouns are used, I'm sorry.)I opened my eyes, my vision fading from black. The last thing I remember was looking at the red string that phased through the screen once I turned it on. I had never noticed my string going through the screen, and whenever I wasn't on my Xbox I could always see it go really far. I had seen people say things about "if you have a strong emotional connection with a fictional character they might be your soulmate in another universe" or whatever. I always thought it wasn't real, even though I wanted it to be. Although, now, I was sure that it was true.
I looked around, checking my surroundings. I didn't immediately know where I was, until I saw a very familiar chicken run straight to me. This could be anyone's chicken, but I had a feeling I knew exactly who's it was, based on the buildings, and the idea of my soulmate being here. I held the chicken in my arms for a little bit looking around a bit more, suspecting her owner to show up any moment.
"Colonel!" I heard the very familiar voice call from a distance, and the chicken in my arms jumped out with a coo.
I stared at the string that led in the direction of the voice, that soon rounded the corner. It was none other than Cayde-6, with a small red string leading right to his finger.
"I see you found my chicken." Cayde chuckled as he spoke.
The emotional connection I felt towards the Exo only grew stronger when he was physically present, and I held back tears. The man that made me happier than anything, and comforted me, when nobody else could or would, unknowingly was standing right infront of me. I had dreamed of this for so long, but I couldn't just run into his arms, right? So I let the tears flow.
Cayde's expression suddenly became concerned, "Woah, woah," he walked closer, putting a hand on my shoulder. "What's up?" he continued.
I used my hand to wipe some tears from my eyes, "The sky." I softly smiled as I spoke. Tears still falling. I don't think he noticed the string, and his face didn't change. "I'm sorry." I wiped my eyes again, a slight laugh coming from my lips.
"Hey, it's okay." Cayde comforted, then spoke again. "Why do I feel like I know you?" He questioned, examining my face and body. He stopped, and grabbed my hand, lifting it to his face. Cayde traced the red string tied around my finger back to his own hand, and gave me a look of what seemed to be shock. "Well, would you look at that."
I smiled, "I'm glad to finally meet you again." I spoke, entertwining my fingers with his, our strings the shortest they've been in what seems like forever.
I suddenly felt a wave of what seemed like memories of past lives flood my brain, all with a certain man in them which I knew was Cayde just by voice. The last memories, seemingly of my last life, were undoubtibly of Cayde's last life before he became an Exo. It became apparent that I was Cayde's wife, and the mother of his son, that he only remembered the name of: Ace.
"That was something, huh, [Y/N]?" Cayde spoke, bringing my attention back to current time. I smiled at his use of my name, which told me he had also experienced all of that.
"How about we talk more over spicy ramen?" I asked, very well aware he couldn't say no.
"Sounds good, sweetheart." Cayde said, picking me up on his back, and walked in the direction of where he came from, as I wrapped my arms around his neck.
-_-_-_-
Cayde and I had been talking for seemingly hours at a table in the spicy ramen shop. Although, I knew quite a lot about Cayde already from playing the game, he knew very little about me. We had talked about how technically if you think about it, Cayde had lived 5 lives without me, but also technically he never actually died so he could meet me again. It was quite a complicated thing. I had also told Cayde about how I had gotten here, telling him every detail, except the actual storyline of the games. Especially leaving out Forsaken.
