Dimitri

Her tear-stained face came flashing back to me again and again.

My inside swirled with a mixture of all sorts of emotions and feelings.

I was sorry, guilty, angry, confused, hurt, and scared at the same time.

I couldn't stop thinking about her.

Since the first day I met her she caught my attention.

She was different.

I don't know it was a good difference or a bad different.

But there was something about her that drew me towards her unknowingly.

I have never met a person like her before.

She was always on edge, even a little sound would make her filch, always scared and timid and especially in my presence.

I am aware of the fact that I can be intimidating at times and have an authoritative nature.

Even people my father's age would sometimes get intimidated by me but no one has ever reacted the way she did.

She always took every step, every glance cautiously trying to protect herself from an unknown danger.

What is she trying to save herself from?

What is that unknown danger?

The beeping sound brought a halt to my train of thought.

[Mom] "It's pretty late son are you coming?"

I put the phone in my pocket grabbed my jacket and walked out.

I just finished having lunch with mom and David.

"Son are you okay?"

"Yeah....No.... I mean..."

She gently put her hand on top of mine and brushed my knuckles.

"I am so confused mom. Every time I try to do something I end up doing something else... It's just....." I let out a sigh.

"There is someone special that I really care about and...and every time I try to get close to her or help her I always end up hurting her the most. I just don't know what to do. I tried to distance myself from her but that didn't work. I.... I... huh"

"If she really means that much to you give her some time son. She would eventually realize that hurting her was not your intention."

"Every woman seeks only two qualities in a man, to be loved and be respected.
Respect her and let her know that you are always there for her that's all it takes son." mom said smiling at me.

"So tell me who is this girl that stole my son's heart?"

I chuckled.

"Her name is April."

"She works in our office."

"What's going on mom?" David sat down on the chair eating a spoon full of ice cream.

"Oh we are talking about someone your brother likes." my mom said smiling.

"What? Who is this girl? I better warn her about you."

"Her name is April." mom said.

"That's a pretty name," David said gobbling on the ice cream.

"So where did you....... Wait a minute... I have heard that name before...."

David laughed out almost dropping from the chair.

"Yeah I know her." his laughing continued.

Mom looked at both of us confused.

"Mom" David exclaimed.

"She is so cute and short, She works at bro's office and she is so scared of him she would literally freeze in the spot seeing bro." David finished licking the spoon.

My mom let out a laugh.

"You know what mom......" and David continued with his stories.

I pulled out my phone and opened the gallery.
I clicked on the photo of April I took a few days ago.

She was taking a nap on her desk.

Her beautiful brown hair flowing in her back.

Her pink lips were in a pout.

Her cheeks having a slight tint of rose.

She was looking so pure, innocent, and beautiful.

A smile crept up on my face unknowingly.

April

As soon as I reached home I head towards the bathroom.

I turned on the shower and sat down on the bathtub.

I hugged my knees and tried to stop shaking.

The incident from before kept playing on in my head in repeat like a broken video player.

As the wet cloth started to stuck to my body I felt more suffocated, more trapped.

I could feel his touch still lingering on my skin, I could feel the trace of the hand on my breast when someone "Accidentally" touched me on a crowded bus.
I could feel the"Accidental" bump in the college hallway.

I could feel the hungry eyes gawking at me like a predator.

I could feel their handprints covering up my flesh and swallowing me whole.

I took off my clothes and soon the cold water engulfed me.

I reached out and picked up the loofah.

I roughly rubbed it around my body trying to get rid of the scars, the stares, the comments, and the unwanted touches that I have received in all these years which I never asked for.

My skin quickly started turning red.

I felt like the dirtiest creature in the world.

I felt disgusted with my body, with my skin and myself.

I just wanted to crawl out of my skin.

Only if it was as easy as throwing a dirty piece of cloth away and putting a new one.

I was there in the bathroom for a good 2 hours or maybe more than that.

I wrapped the towel around and looked at my reflection in the mirror.

My eyes were bloodshot, my fingers all white and pruney.

I changed into some comfy clothes and took some of my mother's sleeping pills.

I lay down on my bed a closed my eyes.

I just need some sleep now.

I Want to sleep like a dead and shut the chaos inside my head.

Dimitri

It was late at night when I reached home.

I feel a little less stressed now after having a chat with mom.

I quickly freshen up and went to bed making a mental note to myself.

The first thing to do tomorrow is to apologize to April.
