April

I walked out of the office and towards the elevator Mr. Martínez following right behind me.
I pressed the button and waited for the door to open. As the door opened I walked inside.
Mr. Martínez put his phone in his trouser pocket and walked in.
His back facing me as he pressed the button.

Though I have been in an elevator with him alone numerous times before but for some reason I couldn’t help but feel nervous today.
Mr. Martínez turned around and took his left hand out of his trouser pocket.

The elevator started going down with a slight shake.

Mr. Martínez slowly took a step towards me and I took a step back pressing myself to the wall as much as I can.

I couldn’t help but feel an adrenaline rush as he slowly placed both of his hands on the handrails caging me.

I stood there frozen keeping my gaze low.
He bends his head low to come to my height.
I could feel his strong gaze on me and his oh-so-familiar perfume slowly started to fill up my nostril.

It felt like an eternity as we stood there but he finally broke the silence.

“Sorry I was a little busy about the meeting today.”

I didn’t reply but looked up to the sparkling silver chain dangling in his neck.

He waited for a minute and carefully tucked my lock behind my ear not wanting to startle me.

“I promise I’ll make it up to you.” his dimples immediately popped up.
He stood back and stand next to me.

As the door opened Mr. Martínez walked out and extended his hand for me to hold.

I stood there hesitating, should I?

His assuring smile gave me enough courage to hold his hand, and as soon as I did his large hand engulfed mine.

We reached his car and took off.

The car took unknown roads and turns.

I cuddled up in my seat relaxing, letting the breeze play with my hair.

I sat up straight as soon as I heard the familiar soothing sound of the sea.

Though the darkness engulfed the sea the faint sound was still audible.

Mr. Martínez parked the car on the beach.
I walked out of the car to embrace the familiar smell.
I often come here to spend some alone time but since I got this job I couldn’t come here that often.
This side of the beach was much emptier.
Some shops were open on the other side. Some shop lights could be seen and light chatter could be heard in distance.

“Come on get up on the hood.”

“Huh?”

“I -I am fine I can stand here no…..”

Mr. Martínez not letting me finish off my sentence as always held my hip with his strong grip and set me up on the hood.

I immediately gripped his shoulder tightly for support.

“Don’t worry I got you.”

I let go of him.
He walked towards the back door and came back with two wraps in his hand.

“Dinner.”

He got up and sat next to me.

We ate our dinner in silence enjoying the moonlight reflecting on the waves.

“April there’s something I need to talk to you about.”

I stopped eating and turned to look at him.
