I graduated for college and I needed to volunteer at a hospital. I started volunteering at the nearby hospital and there was this girl.

"Thank you." Dixie says as I give an envelope to her.

Dixie had cancer when she was 18 (4 years ago) and she been here since then. Last year, when I started volunteering here, she was announced cancer-free. They're just watching her health for a few more months.

"Oh my god." Dixie says hugging me.

"Happy birthday." I say.

"I haven't celebrated a birthday in 4 years." She says.

"I could talk to Dr Lewis and you could leave for a few hours." I say.

"Don't worry about it." She says.

"You were announced cancer a year ago and you didn't get to celebrate." I say.

She smiles and nods her head. I leave her room and go find the doctor.

"Dr Lewis." I say.

"Yes?" Dr Lewis asks.

"It's Dixie's birthday and I was wondering if she could go outside for a little. She hasn't had fresh air in 4 years." I say.

He looks up and smiles.

"Yes, and tell her I said happy birthday." He says.

I nod my head and smile. I go back to Dixie's room and smile.

"Sunshine, here I come." Dixie says standing up.

"Wait." I say.

I take the IV out of her arm and she smiles.

"I feel like I've lost a dog. It's 4 years." She says pretending to cry.

I laugh and she smiles.

Time Skip

"Holy shit!" Dixie shouts.

I laugh and she looks at me.

"That scared the shit out of me." Dixie says.

"I can tell." I say.

"Smartass." She says rolling her eyes.

I look at her and she kisses me.

I like Dixie and I'm not gonna deny it. Like, she could get it.

"Sorry." She says.

"I liked it. I like you." I say.

She blushes and I kiss her. She smiles and I hold her hand.

"Have you ever been skydiving?" I ask.

"No." She says.

She looks at me and I nod her head.

"Fuck yeah." She says.

Time Skip

"Have you done this before?" Dixie asks.

"Yup." I say pushing her out the plane.

I jump out and she wasn't screaming. I was REALLY surprised she wasn't.

2 minutes later...

"Pull your chute." I say through the walkie-talkie.

She doesn't say anything and she wasn't falling the same way.

"Holy shit." I say pulling my chute open.

She had passed out and she wasn't waking up. I fly near her and wrap my arm around her waist.

"What did I miss?" Dixie asks.

"You passed out." I say.

"Nah, I was taking a quick nap." She says.

"Oh my god." I say as we land.

"That was fun." Dixie says.

My phone rings and Dr Lewis was calling.

"Hello?" I ask.

"Is it possible for you to bring Dixie back?" Dr Lewis asks.

"Yes, sir." I say.

He hands up and I put my phone.

"We gotta go back." I say.

"Really?" She asks.

I nod my head and she jumps on my back.

Time Skip

We walk inside and everyone jumps out.

"SUrpRIsE." They all shout.

"What?" I ask.

"You're officially a doctor." Dr Lewis says.

Dixie knew what that meant and so did I. She ran to the elevator and closed the door.

"She shut the elevator off." I say.

I go up the stairs and open the door to the elevator shaft. I jump down and open the door.

"Dixie." I say.

"Fuck you." Dixie says.

I sigh and jump down. She's sitting in the corner with her knees to her chest.

"I'm sorry." I say sitting next to her.

"Am I just some girl with cancer that can help you graduate faster?" She asks.

"No, you are so much more than that. I love you, Dixie." I say holding her hand.

She doesn't say anything and I gently rub her hand.

"Even if I don't have to be here anymore, I still want to talk to you. You're a nice person and I don't want to hurt you." I say.

She looks at me and I nod my head.

"I love you." She says.

"I love you too." I say.

She smiles and I kiss her. We were kissing for a while until the elevator door opened.

"I guess they made up." Dr Lewis says.

"Yeah." Dixie says.

"Dixie is ready to go home." He says.

I look at Dixie and she smiles.

"Thank you for your help." Dixie says to the doctor.

Dixie looks at me and I nod my head. She closes the door and kisses me.

"I love you." I say.

"Aww, I love me too." She says.

I roll my eyes and she kisses me.

"I love you too." She says.
