Hi everyone! I am Keerthi Kumar. I am 24 years old. I have completed my undergraduate degree and now pursuing my career at a Finance company in London. I am the only child of my parents who are both cardiothoracic surgeons.
I woke up as usual and got ready for work. I went down to get my breakfast when my mother Meena broke the news,
Mom: Keerthi I want you to meet someone today! So be home on time.
I knew where this conversation was going and just ignored her and left for work.
At the office, I was engrossed with so much work until I realized that it was time for lunch. That is when my best friend and colleague Saranya entered my cabin.
Saranya: Keerthi have you forgotten that it is already lunch and you haven't come out of your cabin since morning! Come on let go have something, I am starving
She then pulled me towards the cafeteria. We ordered our usual sandwiches and settled down at the table near the window.
That was when I thought about what my mom had told me in the morning and suddenly I became very nervous thinking about what will happen. Saranya noticed a change in my face and asked what was the matter and I explained about the person coming to see me tonight. She on the other hand got so excited and told me to not overthink! What will I ask him? Will he like me? So many questions were going through my mind. He will be the first person I am going to meet although my mother had searched for a groom for a year now. She thinks that I should settle down early before it is too late for her and my dad to worry about me. We returned to our cabins after the break and continued working till it was 5 pm. I left immediately to go home as I did not want to get into trouble with my mum.
As I came home my dad Kumar was waiting for the guests to arrive while mom was doing the last-minute arrangement. She saw me and told me to get dressed in a saree soon. I ran to my room, had a quick shower, and changed into a blue saree. It was around 6.30 pm when I heard voices from downstairs.
Just then mom came to my room,
Mom: Come on Keerthi, they are here, and don't be nervous, it is just a meeting we arranged as the horoscopes matched perfectly. His name is Ashwin and he is a neurosurgeon at the same hospital we work at. He is a good boy and we are not forcing you to marry him. But just tell us whether you accept this proposal or not after talking to him.
I nodded my head and went downstairs with her.
I was so nervous and was just staring at the ground when an elderly woman just like my mother came near me and said,' She is beautiful Kumar. Keerthi I am Renu Ashwin's mother, this is Shekar my husband and that is Shreya my youngest daughter.' That was when I looked up and felt a pair of eyes staring at me. I turned my head and saw a handsome guy looking at me, and at that moment I knew that he was Ashwin. I immediately lowered my eyes and greeted all of them and sat next to Renu aunty. She was asking general questions on where I work etc. to which I answered politely.
Later I was called by my mother and was given a tray with cups of coffee for everyone. I took them and gave Renu aunty and uncle then finally to Shreya,
Shreya: Hi Akka it is nice to meet you.
I replied to her and later extended the tray to HIM. That was when I noticed that he had beautiful eyes and he was already looking at me with a small smile. I quickly averted my eyes and went back to the seat. After some time my father said,' Let Ashwin and Keerthi talk alone for some time,' to which all agreed. I got up and he followed me to our garden.
We were quiet for some time and then he spoke up, ' Hi I am Ashwin and I am a neurosurgeon. Glad to meet you. He extended his hand and I took my hand to shake, at that very moment I felt something in the pit of my stomach and I can see that he also felt it. I quickly withdrew my hand and introduced myself. Later we talked about general topics and he was always looking at me with a smile and I blushed. When we were about to go back he asked,' Keerthi I am sorry but can I have your number? You know just to keep in touch and you know we can meet up sometime later this week too? ' Was he asking me on a date? I was so happy and gave him my number.
'Ashwin I would like to get to know you more so you can contact me anytime.' I really don't know where I got the courage to talk like this with him. He gave me a genuine smile and as I turned to go inside he held my hand again.

This was the first time I am experiencing this and this was a new feeling! Every time he looks at me, touches me I am overwhelmed. He came closer to me and whispered,' You look beautiful and I want to know you more too Keerthi.' He immediately left my hand and went inside as if nothing happened. It took me few seconds to comprehend what was going on and went inside the house. They left after few minutes and after they got into the car Ashwin turned, smiled at me, and drove away!
I felt happy and my mom asked me about the talk we had in the garden. I told her that we might meet outside soon and will let her know my decision soon. She was elated that I considered meeting him again. We had our dinner and went to bed early that day. As I was scrolling through my Instagram, I got a message from an unknown number which happens to be Ashwin. He texted, ' Goodnight'. I smiled at the text, wished him, and dozed off with a smile.
