You opened your eyes, blurry shapes and shadows looked around the room as your eyes adjusted. It sounded like you were underwater, a hollow, echoing sound of murmurs filling your ears, though you couldn't decipher any of them. Your eyes closed tightly as you groaned, feeling the searing pain in your side.
"Can you hear me?" you were surprised to hear Mercer's voice cutting over the murky sounds going through your head. You were surprised he was even there, normally he would be working. You tried your best to nod, or say something, but you were still half unconscious. You felt his hand cover yours, his thumb soothingly rubbing yours. You tried to open your eyes again, as the noises slowly quieted to silence and all you could hear was your own heartbeat and the fireplace crackling. "Are you feeling alright?"
"It hurts." You muttered, unable to say much else. Your mouth didn't want to form words, so you got out whatever you could. You barely moved, but turned your head to look at him.
"I know, it will get better with some time. A friend of mine is an amazing healer, she's on her way." He smiled at you reassuringly. "Try and rest more, I'll be right here when you wake up."
