*ELI'S POV*

    "ELIZABETH TORRES."

I look up and see the most furious green eyes throwing daggers at me. These particular green eyes were attached to an equally furious body of a teenage girl stomping her way towards me and creating a path of scared teenagers who were probably thinking that the Sam Anderson they knew was finally back.

"Umm... I know you know that my full name is just Eli." I tell her half laughing but shifting on my feet, feeling nervous.

"I KNOW. BUT IT DOESN'T GIVE THE SAME INTENSITY AS WHAT I'M ABOUT TO SAY." Sam was now standing right in front of me and I could feel the fires from hell.

"What are you about to say?" I ask, my voice getting higher at the end.

"HOW DARE YOU. HOW DARE YOU PUT YOUR LIFE IN HARM'S WAY." I had to step my foot back to regain balance since she was now hitting me on the chest. The few early morning people were now gathering to watch us. I quickly pulled Sam into a hug so that she'd stop hitting me and also waved away at the people watching us as if telling them that this was nothing and they should go.

"Why-- would you do-- that? You could've been-- hurt. You-- could've died." Sam said in between sobs.

"But I'm not, ok? I'm right here." I stroke her back trying to comfort her. "I'm sorry. But I was just afraid what would happen to Leo if things escalated. And I've had my own fair share of experience with guys like him. If I didn't know I could calm him down I wouldn't have done anything. You know me. I'm a sucker for beaten down people, being one myself once."

Sam looks up at me, tears in her eyes, "You were like him?"

"No. But I hung around people like him... and maybe helped them a few times. But I'm not like that anymore." I smile at her, trying to tell her that I really have changed.

"Leo said you taunted him. He was going on and on about how cool you were in front of the gun and snatching it from him." Sam grimaces at me.

"Yeah, umm... I guess old habits die hard?" I scratch my head and give an awkward smile. "I promise it won't happen again. I'll keep you in mind next time."

"You better. I am not going to lose you." She hits me again. I put my hands on the sides of her face and tilt her head back to get a better look. Her eyes were all red and her cheeks tear-stained. I can't believe how cute she looks right now. I wipe her cheeks with my thumbs and fought with every fiber in myself to not kiss her then and there.

"You're making me want to kiss you right now," I whisper and make her blush.

"You can't. Everyone's watching." Unfortunately, people were watching. Did they not see me shoo them away? I glared at them, which worked and they quickly dispersed.

"Okay, they're gone. You can kiss me now," Sam says, puckering her lips.

"Haha. C'mon, let's freshen up that cute face of yours." I take her hand and lead her to the building.

"With a kiss?" She says while skipping beside me.

"I heard you guys put on a show this morning?" Jane smirks at us. Despite my objection, we were in the cafeteria seated at a table right in the middle.

"We had our first fight," Sam says, taking one of my fries.

"I think you've had fights waaay before that," Kate laughs.

"It's our first fight as a---"

"As friends," I quickly cut her off.

"You know Eli, no one would blame you if you just dated already." Jane says matter of factly.

"I'm fine waiting."

"I'm not." Sam complains. I just give her a smile.

"You two are so cute. Jane, why can't we be that cute?" Kate tilts her head at Jane acting cute.

"Umm, because we're not dating. And I'm straight."

"Boo. You're so boring."

"How can you be so sure?" I ask Jane, much to the amusement of Kate.

"Because I already checked."

Curious, I ask, "How?"

"I kissed Kate."

I definitely did not expect that answer. I look at Kate and ask her, "Whaaat?"

"Yeah that happened," she shrugs it off. "That's how I knew Jane and I won't match." She puckers her lips as if insinuating something.

"Excuse me?" Jane proceeds to punch Kate's arm.

"Well, I'm not one to judge kissing your friends," I laugh.

Sam slams her juice on the table surprising us three. "Do you kiss your friends?"

"Well, no since you guys are my only friends." I laugh nervously knowing full well I had fallen into a trap.

She narrows her eyes at me, "You know what I mean."

I sigh knowing that she wasn't going to drop this. "You know I had a year. So yeah, I kissed some people and some of them were my 'friends'."

"Hmph. I know."

"Looks like they're going to have their next fight," Kate whispers excitedly to Jane who just rolls her eyes.
