I dashed as fast as I could towards the woods and with each step and leap, I gained speed.
There was a fence around the property but I wasn't about to let that stop me from the risk I just took.
It was too high to jump over but there was a gap under the gate that I could try to squeeze under.
The hole was small and narrow but somehow, I made it through.
It was tough, but once I was through, I was free.
I followed the car tracks through the forest on a one way dirt road and had no plans of stopping until I knew I was far from Elliot. The sounds of thumping echoed in my ears as my paws slammed onto the ground. I ran and didn't stop, not until I was at the base of the mountain.
Once I reached a paved, concrete road, I stopped to breathe.
The road was stretched going two ways and I didn't know which way to go.
There was only one road leaving me two options to choose from: go left or go right. One would surely take me home and the other would lead me to somewhere I've never been, somewhere I didn't want to go.
As I stood there, huffing and trying to think of which direction to go, I could hear something coming towards me at full speed. I whipped myself around and got in a defensive stance, ready to attack whatever was coming.
Down the hill came a golden animal charging at me with clothes in its mouth. It was Aron in his dog form.
I let out a bit of a growl to warn him that I will attack if he got too close and he made sure to stop a couple feet away from me.
"Ellie" Aron said as he was trying to catch his breath. He was talking, but not out loud. I could hear his voice clearly in my head but not one word left his mouth.
"It's mind linking Ellie, it's how some animals communicate." He explained.
I tried to respond but I didn't know how. Mind linking is something I had never done before so I didn't know how it worked.
"Where are you going?" He asked. "What happened?"
I paused for a moment but I wasn't able to speak because I had yet to learn how to in my animal form. I turned my head back to the road and and stared for a moment before looking back at him.
"If you're looking for home, it's west from here." Aron said as he stepped closer to me. I took a step back in response, letting him know that I still didn't want him too close to me.
"I'll take you where you want to go, but you need to calm down first. You have to get out of your animal form, it's dangerous." he said as he slowly approached me yet again. My eyes stared straight into his as I sharply gazed at him, making him aware that I had no intentions of turning back into a human.
I let out a growl, causing him to stop his slow approach towards me. I wasn't sure if I should follow Aron or not, but in my current situation, he was the best chance I had of getting home.
"Ellie, I'm not the enemy. I don't know what happened between you and Elliot, but I know you can't stay with him so that's why I'm trying to help you. Believe me." Aron spoke softly.
The sound of a car could faintly be heard and I knew we were running out of time as it got louder and closer.
"We need to go, follow me." Aron said as he began running.
I didn't have much of an option, considering if I wanted to go home, I would have to go the direction he was running anyway.
Following him for now is my best bet to getting back home.
