After returning home from the rather extravagant affair that was luncheon with the Queen, Aurora was most surprised to see her parents' carriage parked in front of her uncle's house and Julius carrying what appeared to be at least five suitcases.

"Have mama and papa arrived already?!" Aurora asked excitedly.

Julius stopped his battle with the cases upon hearing her voice.

"Yes, and the bloody idiots have decided that I should be the one to carry in all their blasted luggage. As if they haven't brought the entirety of Chillingham with them."

"You deserve it after your efforts with Harding and the Bridgertons" came Aurora's unpitying response.

"Oh please! As if that hasn't been the best thing to happen to you all season. I say, it was a stroke of good fortune I said what I did."

Aurora had still not entirely forgiven her brother for his actions and so merely strode down the pathway to the house, leaving him to struggle in with their parents' suitcases unaided.

They frequently had petty misgivings and small rifts would emerge between the two, but this was the first time that neither had apologised and Aurora began to wonder how long it would be until they made amends.

'It is his fault for behaving so irrationally and without any concern for my future' she said to herself.

Entering the main hall, Aurora found her mother, father, and another young lady of a similar age to her in discussions with her aunt. The room had been cleared of any chairs, rugs and flower arrangements ahead of the wedding as it had been decided that the pre-wedding breakfast for all the ladies of the ton was to take place there.

The barrenness of the hall made the girl feel uncomfortable. It was so very cold and she hoped the decorations were put up soon so she did not have to witness it's eerie atmosphere.

"Aurora! My darling"

Her mother immediately made her way over to her and embraced her in a tight hug. They had not seen each other in quite a long time now and - although she had always been closer with her father - Aurora knew that this would be a time of great intimacy between the two.

"I have someone I'd like for you to meet. We happened in chance to be staying at the same inn and - well - I always was very very close with her mother so we fell into easy conversation and then one thing led to another and here we are!" Her mother seemed incredibly excited by the introduction which intrigued Aurora greatly.

Her mother took her by the hand and led her over to the girl who appeared to be debating George Gordon's poetry.

"Aurora this is Mary Godwin, Miss Godwin my daughter Aurora Grey the future Viscountess Bridgerton."

Aurora rolled her eyes internally at her mother's introduction.

'Of course she is so very excited about my engagement. Heaven forbid someone be on my side!' She thought to herself.

"It is a pleasure to meet your acquaintance Lady Grey. Your writing always inspired me when I was younger."

Aurora was surprised at her comment and stuttered out a response.

"My-my writings? Do you - do you mean my... philosophies?"

Mary's face brightened.

"Yes, I found them interesting. My mother would have agreed with many of the things you said."

Aurora had completely forgotten about her writings.

When she was fifteen years old a sudden urge to write poetry and philosophical theories had overtaken her and she had produced - over the course of a year - a three hundred page novella of writings. Unexpectedly, the piece had been published under the pen name Victor Rothney and had become exceedingly well received, especially across the north of England.

She had all but forgotten about her writings and had not given them much thought for quite some time.

"They inspired me to write some work myself actually"

Yes, Aurora was not unaware of the young Godwin's writing abilities. Much of her work had already been published across England.

"I've been working on a novel actually" continued the girl, "it was inspired by a trip to Geneva with two of my oldest friends. I'd like very much for you to read it, I haven't got a name yet but I think you'll find it very interesting. It's about a man whose his complex leads him to use scientific experiments to create a..."

Aurora listened intently to the girl who she was most attracted to already (and found herself thinking what an excellent trio her, Miss Godwin and Eleanor Hayward would make) as they wandered off through the hallways of the house.

*****

I've added in a historical character (although you may not initially recognise her as she was at this time unmarried). Her and a couple of other members of the Romanticism movement will be popping up across all three of my books because they were very prominent members of society at the time and also because I am deeply in love with Lord Byron.

Hope you're all staying safe and don't forget to vote and comment - I really do enjoy reading what you have to say.
