SHE FOUND HERSELF BACKSTAGE, THEIR LAST PERFORMANCE ON THAT STAGE CLOSING IN.

Her leg bounced up and down, fingers fiddling with themselves while her eyes travelled all over the place, not being able to sit still.

A hand on her leg caused her movements to stop, she glanced to her side, cocking an eyebrow at Jay.

'You've grown awfully confident,' she noted. 'Is it just because I helped you date?'

Jay let out an awkward chuckle. 'It's not that,' he said.

'Then what?'

'Nothing. . .'

'Okay. . .' Midori trailed off. 'Keep your secrets, then.'

NERVES RAN OVER THE PLACE, breath heavy as she stood on that familiar stage

NERVES RAN OVER THE PLACE, breath heavy as she stood on that familiar stage.

Faces of old friends presented themselves in front of her. Taehyun, an old friend, gave her a reassuring nod. They used to be close, having grown a bit distant because of his busy schedule, Midori would like to reconnect with him.

While Huening Kai and Beomgyu had grown more fond of Naito, their energetic personalities matching, Taehyun and Midori found comfort in each other.

'The first member to debut decided by global viewers is a member who brought a lot of smiles to their fellow I-LANDERs. . .'

'Midori.'

Relief came with the calming wave of serendipity, washing over her body with that usual gentleness. A small breath she didn't know she had been holding left her lips while she covered her mouth. The ten boys surrounded her, praising her and hugging her, but Midori paid no mind to them, mind still caught up in the surprise.

The host's voice fell deaf against her ears as Naito pushed everyone away from her to embrace her himself, a kiss on her temple and arms wrapped around her, he refused to let go.

'Midori, please share your remarks.'

Midori exhaled a small breath before opening her mouth to speak. 'To hear the news and just being here and getting the opportunity to experience this has changed me so much. I don't think I can thank everyone who voted for me enough, nevertheless those who believed in me―'

Her eyes found Taehyun's and he gave her a reassuring nod, motioning for her to continue.

'Being on I-LAND has opened new doors for me and given me a different perspective. For a long time I've just been running, not knowing what I was chasing but I-LAND guided me towards the right path and now I'm standing here and I still have a long way to go but. . . I know what I'm chasing now,' Midori said, finishing her speech with a proud smile.

'Thank you,' Midori finished and a breath of relief made its way from her lips as she walked over to the side. Naito released his grip around her, the pride still blooming inside his chest.

Then came Heeseung, tears streaming down his face as he walked towards Midori. She had a hard time containing her smile as he embraced him, whispering those familiar words of reassurance in his ear before letting him stand on the platform beside hers.

One turned to two, two turned to three, three turned to four, they only seemed to pile on until it was Sunoo, Daniel and K left.

Her heart was in conflict.

As much as she adored K and wished to debut alongside him, would it really be the right choice to put him alongside Ni-ki?

Not that she needed to be conflicted anymore, for when the voice announced the last member, Midori knew that she had broken her promise.

But who was she to forget that Lucifer once had roamed the heavens?

Getting off her platform, Midori made her way over to K, that familiar melancholic smile on her face. Her hands reached his, pulling him in for a hug.

No words were spoken between the two of them.

No words were spoken between the two of them

SEEING ALL OF THEIR FAMILIAR FACES BROUGHT A WAVE OF NOSTALGIA OVER HER. She didn't want to say goodbye to all of them but knew that she had to nonetheless. Silent tears rolled down her cheeks in comfort, reminding her that she wasn't alone. Of course, her tears were seldom tears of sadness or anguish, but when they were, crying was a way to alleviate it.

'I had a sister,' K said, voice breaking in the middle of a sentence. 'She left me at a young age but destiny gave me you instead.'

'Thank you, Midori, for everything. Thank you for being my friend.'

'Weren't you the one who approached me?' she asked with a light laugh, trying to make the situation somewhat brighter.

'Does it matter?'

'Of course, it does,' Midori replied. 'I should be the one thanking you.'

Struggling to find the right words, K only pulled Midori closer.
