Colby's nose ran up my neck as I lay facing away from him. I was smiling to myself, letting him do whatever he wanted. That's what I was like when I woke up: passive. I didn't care what he did or what he said, I would just lie there and let it happen. Today was no different and the butterflies in my stomach reminded me of why I let him do whatever.

He kissed my newly-made mark from last night, his lips pressing lightly at first until he nipped me and sucked on the skin. It took me waking up more to realise that he was marking me even more. I naturally pushed him away, rolling onto my front with my hair covering my neck.

He let out a huff like a child before he switched his attention to something else. He traced down my spine from my shoulder to my lower back with his fingertips before he flattened his palm to come back up. My muscles flexed beneath him, asking for more. I didn't expect him to lean over and kiss down my spine, but I was all for it.

I held back gasps as he stopped and made me roll over. I ended up facing him, my one eye closed and my hair falling over my face. Colby smiled at me, which melted my heart. He brushed back my hair and pulled me closer to him, kissing my lips lightly. I had to smile, it was impossible not to.

It wasn't often that Colby did this, but when he did, I always loved it. Even if I was mad a second later, I'd be in a good mood for the rest of the day.

He genuinely made me happy.

Just as he was about to pull me over him, the door opened and I hurried to pull the covers over myself. We both looked at the intruder.

Angela.

"Don't worry, nothing I haven't seen before," she said in amusement as she paused in the middle of the room. She glanced at Colby—at his chest—and smirked a little. "That, on the other hand-"

"Angela," I growled, sitting up as I held the sheets to my chest.

She laughed. "Relax! I already told you he isn't my type and now I'm a taken girl."

"Then take yourself out of here," I mumbled, dropping back onto the bed. I suddenly wished we'd locked the door last night—I thought we had, but Angela wasn't strong enough to break in by herself.

"We need to talk before you get up," Angela said, oblivious to the fact that she shouldn't even be in this room to begin with. "And without him. So if he could..." she trailed off, motioning to the door.

"No. Thanks though," Colby replied, placing a hand behind his head. I snickered and held a middle finger up to my sister, who groaned and started toward the bed.

"Woah, woah, back up there," I snapped before she could get too close. "I don't think so."

"If you won't—"

"I won't whatever you're about to say, and we both know I will avoid whatever punishment you have lined up for me. You trained me for this my whole life just by existing." Angela was frozen halfway to my side of the bed. "Out. Now."

She bit the inside of her cheek. I raised a brow waiting for her to leave, but instead, the weight next to me disappeared. In a blur, Colby moved to the closet and came out in sweatpants holding a t-shirt, which wasn't for him. He threw it at me.

"Traitor," I muttered.

He smiled at me. "It's important."

"Uh-huh." Knowing that I was only going to insult him if he stayed, he zipped out of the room, leaving me alone with my sister. I was grumbling curses to myself as I managed to get his shirt on without flashing her. Maybe she'd seen it all before, but that didn't mean I was about to show her anything now.

When I was out of bed, she dragged me to the couch and started to talk. "There are a couple of things you need to know before you go to the feeding house," she told me, using her hands to speak more than her mouth. "First of all, you can't have that mark on your neck."

"Why?" I snapped instantly, raising my hand to the bite mark Colby had left on me.

"Because a vampire doesn't want to bite where another vampire has been before them. I think it's some sort of pride thing, but I really don't know." I tried not to look upset about that because I liked having Colby's mark on me. "Obviously, you're not looking to get bitten, but you'll need to have no bite marks to fit in. If that's what you want."

"I guess," I grumbled.

Angela smiled. "Great! Next thing, you can't be you."

"Helpful."

"You know what I mean, Becca. You can't be miserable-"

"Not miserable."

"... and bitchy. The vampires like someone who'll jump into their arms, not give them shit about their character. They want a groupie, I guess. They don't care who you are or if you think they're assholes, just how much blood they can get out of you and how easy it'll be to do that."

"So act like you," I said bluntly.

"Ouch." Angela held a hand to her heart but didn't say anything more about it. "Last thing is my favourite." The grin on her face scared me. "You can't wear black."

I went deadly silent.

"Becca, it's okay, there are no monsters in the closet."

I was still silent.

"Jesus, it's just another colour. Why do you look so freaked out?" No words came out of my mouth. "Okaaaaay, I feel like I should call Colby up here. Does he need to shake you to life?"

Another moment of silence.

"Alright, well, I'm just going to give you an outfit and you can go and change into it, okay?" I didn't respond still so she laughed at me. "So this is how to break Rebecca Woods. Good to know."

Then she left me alone... for all of five minutes.
