The moment, felt as if stopped by some celestial force

The moment, felt as if stopped by some celestial force. The world it felt, as if it had stopped spinning.

Myself, wished the world to move rather faster instead of halting it's absolute motion for the time being.

"My baby-" Mother mumbled, as recognition flashed over her features as she cupped both of my cheeks, pulling me in for a hug.

In the embrace of her arms, I stood motionless, the thought of embracing her back playing ping pong in my head.

Her palms left my cheek, moving to my hair, stroking my head, oh so very gently, cooing like I was a small baby lost in a supermarket for a minute.

Except. I was not a child. Not anymore. And I certainly was not lost. I left.

Closing my eyes once again, I thought how it would be a straight lie if I admitted that I didn't picture this scenario in my head since I left home. A thousand different outcome of my action used to play games in my head jumping from one incident to the other.

But none of the outcome ended with my mother, hugging me.

None of them ended up in the middle of a designer showroom with me clutched tight against her chest, while she stroked my hair.

I felt like a child over again for the second time in the last two minutes.

A little child who has been scolded by her mama and now the mother was apologising silently after finding out how the little kid was mad at her mother.

It's been a while I have been a child. I think, pulling myself away from my mother's embrace.

I hoped to find tears in my eyes. The mist clouding my vision, threatening to pour like a monsoon rain. Ready to crumple me up like an old outdated newspaper.

But my eyes were dry when I studied my mother. She was dabbing the corners of her eyes. Her manicured fingers working methodically around her eyes, preventing her make up from messing up.

"I never thought-" She sniffed, a polite smile replaced on her face once again from the raw emotion that had come over her face for some calculated second.

"I never thought, I would see you again." She whispered, her hand reaching to palm my cheek once  again.

I stand there silent. Motionless. Processing.

Processing.

"Sweetheart~" She mumbles again, her knuckles caressing the apple of my cheek. "Baby, mama missed you so much."

Oh?

"Where were you?" She asks gently. "Where have you been? Didn't you miss mama or papa? At all?"

I feel my lip tremble but I hide the agony, the pain- most of all the regret that her words bring to me. It makes my self control wobble.

"I looked for you so much~ I searched so much, baby girl- and yet you didn't call. Not once-" She bites her lip trying to stop the tremble in her voice.
