newspaper company
to the ground

and she loved to
dress up
golden necklaces
plunging necklines
to ditch her
plaid skirts
and black boots
in favor of
tulle and chiffon
her name was
camille
and her painted fingernails
clacked on the keys
of her old typewriter
the same three words
over and over again

when she got home she'd
put on a record
and dance with her
love
until the oven timer
dinged
and they sat down at the
table
her name was
camille
and she spent hours
by the sea
reading wilde and
shakespeare
falling in love with
bronte
she'd tie silk ribbons
into her hair
and run through the
halls
with her lover
she loved to hear
that girl
laugh
her name was
camille
and she carried
tote bags
across town
often filled with
brown paper packages
or keys
little things she
collected
along her way around
the city
her name was
camille
and she died a little
too young
the mourners at her
graveside
were like her
fleeting existence
there and then
gone
