the
plummeting feeling
you get in your gut
the sensation you have
on roller coasters
and joyrides
the wild laughter and
unkempt hair
blowing back in the wind
the screaming into a
karaoke mic
on a friday night
"i love you"s and
"you're crazy"s
is that love?
what is love?
the
coffee shop moments
long silences broken by
weary smiles
holding hands under
blankets
sitting by the
fire
the zing that goes
through your body
like a shock
like a spark
when their eyes
find your lips
"forever"s and
"i'm yours"s
is that love?
what is love?
the
simple belonging
you find in a crowd of
strangers
the peace that comes with
knowing
you are unimportant
you are an
ant
in the expanse of the
concrete sidewalk
that is the
world
anonymity that allows
recklessness
holding hands with
someone you've never
met
"excuse me"s and
"my name is"s
is that love?
is it the
soft, creeping
warmth
that floods your veins
at dawn
when you roll over
in bed
and see someone
lying there?
is it the
fiery burn in your
chest
like alcohol
but stronger
that you get when
their eyes light up
as brilliant as the
stars?
is it the realization
that you will have
no other—
the understanding that
the world matters less
without them in it?
or is love, perhaps,
realizing it?
and slowly, as the hours
turn
and breathless laughter
turns into
fireside familiarity,
accepting that?
