beauty
in broken things
in violet petals
crushed
under stones and
warm glass
there is
beauty
in broken things
in lilting melodies
and dissonant
notes
there is
beauty
in broken things
in the soft creaking
of storm-torn
doors
there is
beauty
in broken things
in hearts
shattered into
shards
there is beauty in
broken things
and it took too long
for me to realize it
because
crushed violet petals
are being pressed
for diary pages
because
accidentals
are the foundation of
jazz
because
doors swinging off their
hinges
still offer shelter from the
storms
because
shattered hearts and
plucked, snapped heartstrings
-if able to be broken-
were never really whole.
