where you'd marvel

at the cog-work clock-work

insides

of big ben

i'd take you to sunny

florida

and chilly maine

half way around the world

and back again

i'd show you

every last spot

in the world

that ever meant

anything to me

where coy glances were

once exchanged

and subway tickets were

munched down by

machines that resembled

the cookie monster

to a five-year-old girl

with black pigtails

and big eyes

i'd paint you in amsterdam

and bike with you in

naples

i'd take you to

japan

where we could walk under

cherry blossom snows

i'd leave with you on a

big white sailboat

and at the end of it all

we'd find ourselves

at home

in silly silences and

honeyed squares of

light

that the windows cast

on worn wooden floors

and i might show you

all my favorite places

but i hope that
