SATURDAY MORNING. "Good morning, Jos." My eyes slowly fluttered open as I heard Luke speak softly beside me. I looked over at him through squinted eyes and sent him a tired smile as my eyes shut again. I couldn't quite keep them open and that caused Luke to laugh. His lips gently connected with the skin of my forehead and I smiled a little wider in response to his action. I tried opening my eyes again, and this time I was more successful.
"G'morning," I mumbled as I cuddled in closer to Luke. He wrapped his strong arms around me and gave me a squeeze, before planting several kisses amidst my tangled hair. "How long have you been up?" I asked him, distancing myself from him slightly to get a better look at him.
"About an hour or so," he told me, shrugging to signify that he hadn't minded being awake. "I got myself caught up on new drama."
"New?" I asked in a whiny tone. "What's happening now?"
"Nothing to worry your pretty little head about," Luke told me with a sweet smile on his face. "It's not really new, I suppose—people are just dragging Vince more now that old pictures of you two have been surfacing from your all's social media accounts."
"What?" I asked, my stomach filling with nerves at the thought of anyone seeing old photos of us and possibly thinking I was to blame for something, or that we had maybe been involved for a long time.
"Bubs—no one is saying anything negative about you. They're just calling him out for being a shit guy since it's so clear you all were just friends and now he's turned on you." Luke placed his hand on my cheek as he tried to soothe my nerves. "It's not reflecting badly on you, I promise."
"You're right—I'm just being silly," I said through a soft laugh. "I hate how negative my thoughts always are... I feel like I'm always expecting the worst." Luke's eyes seemed to droop with sadness, but I didn't want either of us to dwell on it any longer. "But that's not important today—because today is the day." A genuine smile replaced the sad look on Luke's face and I felt a rush of excitement run through me.
"You excited?"
"Are you kidding? I've been waiting for this day since I was a kid—and I never thought it'd actually happen. I'm beside myself." I sat up in bed as my world seemed to brighten, and I felt a boost of energy surge through me as my whole body was attacked by a case of excited tingles. "And I have you to thank. Who knows where I'd be if you hadn't come into my life."
"Well, you wouldn't have to move out because of people with big cameras staking outside your door—that's for sure." I sent Luke a glare, and he sent me an innocent smile before leaning up and kissing my jaw. "I'm glad I could meddle enough to have this dream of yours come true. I won't take complete credit and I won't act too proud, but I am happy to have helped."
