After my second class I headed back home so I could get ready for work. I kept on the black leggings I was wearing and threw on a simple white t-shirt. We could basically wear whatever we wanted other than ripped jeans and sweatpants. We had to wear an apron anyway so it didn't really matter too much. When I got there at 1:30 sharp I threw on my apron and adjusted my name tag. I said hello to Heather and Carol who were always here. Carol was a sweet old lady that has worked here long before I even started. Then there was Heather who was also always here, but she was only a little older than I was, probably about mid thirties.
There were other people that worked here too but I talked to them the most since we all worked the counter. There was another girl who was in high school, her name was Amelia and she worked Tuesdays and Thursdays. She was the sweetest thing in the world too.
"How are you today Bren?" Carol asked as she cleaned the counter off and did some other cleaning things.
"I'm okay how are you? Has it been busy?" I asked even though I was here earlier. I come in every day at the same time, and stay for the same amount of time. I talk to them briefly when I order and if they come by my table I talk to them too, but they respect that I have work to do. I loved my coworkers, every single one of them. They were all just the sweetest people I've ever met.
"It's always busy sweetheart." She said and slowly made her way to the register as a new customer came up.
Heather and I stood at the counter and took peoples orders when people were in line. Then when there wasn't anyone waiting to order we did some other things to keep us busy.
I heard the little bell ring on the door which signified a new customer. Heather and Carol were off doing something else which left me to take the order. I looked up once he approached and saw that it was the boy I bumped into today, and yesterday. He smirked once we made eye contact and put his hands down on the counter.
"So you work here huh?" He asked and looked me up and down. Why was he always looking at me like that? It's rather intimidating.
"I do." I said as casually and collected as possible. I didn't want him to know that I think he's really hot or really intimidating. I want him to think that I don't care or pay attention to anything about him.
"What can I get for you?" I asked nicely and got ready to place his order.
"Well... Brenna, I'd like a vanilla latte... and maybe a slice of chocolate cake." He said and pursed his lips as he looked at the desserts in the little window thing. I'm now wishing I didn't have my name tag on, I did not want him to know my name.
He didn't strike me as the type to order a vanilla latte so that was a bit surprising. Whenever people ordered my mind immediately pictured a drink that I feel like fit them, even if I didn't know them. It was fun for me to guess honestly.
"Anything else?" I asked and looked up after I typed the order in.
"Nope." He said and popped the p.
"Can I have your name please?" I asked so that I could put it with the order.
"I know I'm hot baby but I'm not interested." He said smugly which made me scoff.
"Neither am I, it's for your order smart one. And don't call me baby." I said and pointed a finger at him. He smirked for some reason and just looked at me, for much longer than I appreciated.
"Calum." He said after a minute of silence.
"That'll be 6.72." I said and waited for him to pull out his card and give it to me so he could pay.
"I'll see you around." He said with a smirk and walked over to the other end of the long counter and waited for his order. I just scoffed at his cockiness and went to put hit order in.
"How's my favorite girl?" Cole asked and walked up to the counter. I blushed a deep red and smiled at him as he got closer to me.
"She's good, how are you?" I asked and rested my elbows on the counter. Luckily it's died down a bit so I had the time to talk to him.
Cole has been my boyfriend for a little less than two years now. He was like an angel. All of my friends loved him, my family loved him, even my coworkers loved him. He was pretty much perfect.
"I'm great. Has it been busy today?" He asked and looked around a bit.
"Pretty normal since I got here." I said and shrugged my shoulders.
"That's good. Wanna get me my usual?" He asked and handed me a 10 dollar bill.
"Yeah sure." I said and put his order in and handed it to Carol.
"Cole how are you honey?" She asked once she looked down at the order.
"I'm good Carol how are you?" He said sweetly and leaned against the counter.
"Just fine dear. How's school going for you? And work how is that?" She asked as she got his drink ready.
"Schools fine, and work is just the same really." He said nonchalantly.
"Well work hard and become successful. Ladies love success." She said with a suggestive smile.
"Carol." I scolded which made both of them laugh.
"I'm kidding darling." She said and handed him his drink and put her hand on my shoulder.
"I'm not trying to impress anyone but you babe don't worry." He said with a chuckle and leaned over the counter to kiss my cheek.
"You impress me every day." I said and did some cleaning up behind the counter.
The place was pretty much empty since we closed at 8, and no one really ordered coffee this late anyway. So I started cleaning up the place for closing while I talked to Cole some more.
I didn't always see him because he lived in a frat house on campus and I lived off of campus. Campus had strict rules about when they could leave and stuff like that which is why I wasn't interested in living on campus. None of my friends were so we all lived in small apartments.
Luke, Michael, and Ashton all shared a small apartment in the same building as me actually. They live on the fourth floor while I live on the third floor. Kendall pretty much lived with me honestly. She was here more than anyone except for when she visited her family. Her family only lived like twenty minutes from campus so she kind of lived back home and with me. She was in and out all the time, she was free spirited honestly.
Then Avery and Zoe shared an apartment in a different building a few blocks away. You'd think with their completely different personalities that that living situation wouldn't work out, but we all got along amazing despite our different personalities. Our friend group was really chaotic considering all of the different personalities and stuff but we all loved each other a lot.
Actually Michael and Kendall were dating, they have been since before college. I met all of them my freshman year and we all became really good friends really quickly. It's kind of a long story so I won't get into it, but we're all pretty much inseparable.
