Chapter Twenth Four: Monster Loses Control
Neveah's pov
"Carter, what happened, what's going on?"
"He found out." He says blankly as a tear falls down from his face, I cup his face with my hand and wipe the tear with my thumb.
"Who found out what?" I ask and he covers his face with his hands. Tristan walks to the kitchen and I stay with Carter trying to figure out what was going on.
Seeing Carter cry made me remember that Carter is only human, he has a bad history of course but at the end of the day, we're a human and besides, he's getting better now. Maybe prison changed him or maybe Tristan was right, I have changed him.
"Xylon." He whimpers and my heart stops. What had happened to my poor baby? What did Carter do to him?
"Wha- what's wrong with Xylon, Carter?" I ask nervously. Please tell me my son is still alive, please don't tell me he got kidnapped again.
"For Godsakes Carter, what happened to Xylon?!" I yell in frustration and he looks up at me with puffy red eyes.
"He found Out, Neveah." He sniffles and wipes his red eyes.
"Found out about what?" I bite my lip nervously and he sighs.
"That Carter is the bad guy from prison, the one mommy was working with." He says and I close my eyes.
"Shit." I whisper under my breath. Carter looks at me in disappointment and I sigh.
"Where is he?" I ask and he points upstairs.
"I think in his room with Penelope."
"What? Like my best friend, Penelope?" I ask in confusion and he nods.
"She was supposed to be here for your welcome home party, I wanted you to feel comfortable and have a familiar face."
I look at him in awe, Carter is really thoughtful and I appreciate everything he's doing for me and Xylon for our saftey and protection.
Carter helps me go upstairs and I see Penny sitting on the floor by a door, which I assume is the bathroom.
"Neveah." She sees me and stands up walking to me, she gives me a huge hug her back.
"It feels like I haven't seen you in forever, Penny. I missed you."
"I missed you too. But we'll spend everyday together, so we have a lot to catch up on." She laughs and I laugh with her.
"I didn't know you were staying with us, that's great." I smile and hers falls.
"No sweetie, I'm taking you home." Penny says and I look at Carter who looks the stone cold, his jaw clenched and his hands deep in his pockets.
"Carter? You didn't say that." I say and he shrugs.
"I didn't. But Penelope feels you should go stay with her." I shake my head.
"Neveah, you really thought that I was going to let you stay with this crazy murderer did you? I love you too much for that babe." She laughs and I freeze.
"What?" Carter says and my heart skips a beat.
"Carter, no." I say and he laughs.
Fuck
I turn around and face him.
"What did you call me?" His face was growing red and his eyes the size of a coin and dark, the darkest I've ever seen.
"Carter, breathe. Remember, breathe. It's okay."
"STAY OUT OF THIS NEVEAH!" He yells and I place my hands on his chest. His face immediately goes lighter.
"Look, you're probably scaring Xylon who's on the other side of that door, and... And you're scaring me too." I say truthfully. His face immediately goes soft and his eyes are back to normal, the vain that was pulsing on his neck disappeared and his hands were not in fists anymore.
"Fuck!" He yells and I take a step back from him, he notices and sighs.
"I'm so sorry Neveah. I'm sorry I scared you, it was never my intention." He says truthful and I nod. "I think Penny is right, you should go stay with her instead."
"Carter, no. I-I wanna be here with you, I'm safer h-here remember? That's what you said." I say hopefully.
"You're really not safe here, I-I'm losing control of myself again Neveah and I don't want you to be here to see that."
"You don't have to go through this alone-"
"Please," He says in a louder tone, he closes his eyes and sighs. "Please understand, I've told you before that something takes over me and I've never known how to control it. I don't want to lose control when I'm around you and especially Xylon. I don't want you guys to see the monster I really am."
"Bebe," He says stepping closer to me and caressing my face. He cups his hand on my cheek and the other hand on my waist with little distance between our faces. "I'll be watching you, I promise. I'll make sure you're safe from a distance, both you and Xylon. Please, go."
"Fine." I say giving up. He has a point, I have never seen Carter acting up and I don't think that I want Xylon to be here when he does.
"Xylon, sweetie. Come let's go." Penny knocks on the door and Xylon comes out. He doesn't make eye contact with Carter and walks straight past him.
"I'll fix this, I promise." He says, he's voice breaking. I go on my tippy toe and give Carter a kiss.
"And I'll never give up on you." I say and he gives me a tight smile. "I love you, Carter."
"I love you, Dr King." He chuckles softly and I smile looking at the man I fell in love with.
