Chapter 17 - They need to know

"It's pretty isn't it?" Dawson says as she walks up to Harper who is sitting overlooking the water
"I guess" Harper says not taking her eyes off of the sunset
"Tell me what's going on" Dawson says as she sits next to Harper
"Life...It's crap sometimes" Harper says still not taking her eyes off of the water
"Don't have to tell me twice" Dawson says as she smiles
"I'm guessing you didn't come all the way out here to ask if I'm okay" Harper says turning her head to look at Dawson
"Kelly's awake! He's asking for you and Cruz" Dawson says as Harper sighs
"Let's go then! Let another person down" Harper says as she gets up and walks towards Dawson's car
Dawson looks at Harper with a worried look on her face before getting in the car and driving to the hospital. Harper then walks into Kelly's room and his face lights up when he sees her
"Hey you" Kelly says
"How you holding up?" Maya asks as she sits down
"I'm doing okay!" Kelly says as Maya takes his hand
"Do you know where Cruz is? No one is telling me anything" Kelly asks confused
Harper's face then falls
"What?!" Kelly asks concerned
"When you went down, Cruz went down with you, only I couldn't save Cruz...He's gone Kelly" Harper says as a tear falls from her eye
"No he's not! This is some kinda dream! I'm gonna wake up soon!" Kelly says as he starts to pinch his arm
"Kelly" Harper says as she tries to get him to stop but he keeps going
"No! Your not real! I'm gonna wake up and your gonna tell me he's alive!" Kelly shouts as he continues to pinch himself
"He's not alive Kelly! I saw them drag his body out with my jacket lying on top of him!" Harper shouts
"No" Kelly says as he sobs
Harper then leans in for a hug
"He can't be! I needed him!" Kelly shouts
"I know honey! We all did!" Harper whispers in his ear as she hugs him
It's later that night and Harper has to tell the kids. She has arrived home and Benny has just left. Aria is the only one who really understands
"Come here honey! I'm gonna tell you a story!" Harper says smiling
"Coming!" Aria shouts as she runs towards Harper and sits down next to her
"So a long time ago a girl arrived in a firehouse! Like the one mummy works in! And she met a man who was the sweetest most kindest person you would ever meet! He made her feel at home! He had a best friend who never left his side! They then all became best friends and had each others backs! And do you wanna know who that was?" Harper asks smiling trying not to cry
"Who mummy!?" Aria asks as she smiles
"It was mummy and Uncle Cruz!" Harper says as she smiles
"Where is uncle Cruz? He's my favourite uncle! But please don't tell uncle Casey!" Aria says as she laughs
"He's up in heaven! With uncle Otis! Building us a new firehouse!" Harper says as she smiles through the pain
Aria looks out of the window and up into the sky
"Now go get into bed! Before I get rid of all your toys!" Harper says as aria runs into her room
Harper sighs before walking over to the window and looking out into the sky
"We miss you" Harper whispers towards the sky
"Mummy! Come read me and Devin a story!" Aria shouts
"Coming honey!" Harper shouts as she wipes her tears before walking into the kids room
"Once upon a time..." Harper says as she starts to read out the book
