Chapter 49 - Trust

Kelly cried in Harper's arms for the majority of the night. Harper is running on 2 hours of sleep. She gets up without waking Kelly and passes Dr.Charles on the way out. She smiles at him and he gets in the elevator with her
"You sure your okay to go to shift today?" He asks
"Positive!" Harper replies
"I can write you a note? Saying you were helping with a patient" Dr.Charles adds
"He's my husband! I made a vow 12 years ago to always care for him. Through sickness and in health" Harper replies as she steps out and starts to walk away
Harper drives to the firehouse and is 2 seconds late
"Sorry! Sorry!" Harper shouts as she sits in the briefing room
"We good to continue now?" Boden asks
Harper puts up her thumb whilst trying to catch her breath. Boden smiles and gets on with morning briefing. When he is finished they all load into the common room
"Who's cooking?" Herrmann asks
"Since you mentioned it I think you should" Harper adds as she smiles
"You know I can't cook" Herrmann adds
"You can cook your just too lazy to do it! Now as your captain that's an order!" Harper says as she laughs
"I hate you" Herrmann mutters
"Sorry?" Harper adds
"Nothing Captain!" Herrmann shouts as he grabs the ingredients
Harper is laughing and joking with the rest of 51 when Grissom walks in
"Harper!" Grissom shouts
"Grissom" Harper says
"Who's your friend?" Harper asks noticing a man standing behind Grissom
"This is Zack! He tests some firefighters drug levels" Grissom announces
"So for all of us?" Herrmann asks as he stirs the eggs
"No...Only Harper here" Grissom says as he looks at her
"And why would I only have to get tested?" Harper asks as Dawson looks at her
"Well-" Grissom says but Harper cuts him off
"It wouldn't have to do with the fact that squad 3's captain who also happens to be my husband is lying in the psychiatric ward in Chicago med? Would it?" Harper asks professionally
"Well you never know, might have slipped one or two. We all get low sometimes. We all get down. After a hard call. And if I remember correctly you just lost a baby! Your 5 child? That must make you want to take something?" Grissom adds
"Test me all you want Girs! Your gonna find nothing in that test!" Harper yells
"And I'm going to send a few kits home with you. To test those 4 other kids. Make sure I don't need to get child services involved" Grissom adds as Harper sees red
"I would never drug my kids! And if you think for a second that Kelly would do that? Then you have something wrong with you! And I'm not testing my 3 year olds for drugs in their system! Your the face of the CFD! Yet your asking one of your Captains who brought one of your trucks up the ranks to test her kids for drugs?" Harper screams
"Well if the shoe fits" Grissom adds as Harper launches for him
"Harper!" Casey shouts as he runs over to them
He pulls Harper off of Grissom
"You'll be lucky if you ever set foot in a firehouse again!" Grissom yells
"What have you done Harper?!" Dawson yells
Harper's tears fall down her face
"What I had to" Harper states as she walks back to her quarters
