Check-In 28: Tuesdays with Morrie

MASTER THIRDY GESTURED for me to sit down on the couch beside him. Pagkatapos kong mamili ng gown, bridal bouquet, at iba pang mga dekorasyon para sa kasal ay balak ko na sanang tumulong sa hotel kaso ay ipinatawag na naman niya ako sa opisina niya.

He was reading something on a piece of paper. I couldn't see it because he was keeping it away from me. I let out a frustrated sigh and plumped myself into the seat beside him. Doon pa lang siya bumaling sa akin.

"I have to consult a literati for my vow," aniyang ikinairap ko naman.

Doon ko lang din nasilip na wala palang laman iyong papel na hawak niya kanina pa. Tinago-tago pa talaga.

"Boss, there's no need for a literati in making vows. You just have to pen the words that your heart's been telling you," I told him. "Isa pa, matalino ka. Kaya mo na 'yan."

"But you're language smart so I need your help. Please..." he pleaded as he slightly pouted.

I narrowed my eyes into slits and controlled myself not to smile at his display of cuteness. It was entertaining seeing this side of Master Thirdy.

He smiled immediately and mumbled something in order for a pen to materialize on his palm. He held and positioned it near the piece of paper, ready to write.

"Ang pangit mo namang gumawa ng vow. Walang kilig factor, boo..." bulong-bulong ko habang pinupukol nang matatalim na tingin ang kamay niyang may hawak no'ng ballpen.

"How do I start it?" he queried.

"I don't know if this was right but I think and just like any other literary pieces, it should start with something catchy. Start it with a bang," I explained with matching bombing gestures with my hands.

He chuckled and began writing.

"My love..." he uttered as he penned those exact two words and then he stopped, slightly raised the paper, and looked at it as if he had done something unbelievably good. "Wow... that's such a strong introduction."

I don't know if he was teasing me or something but when he looked at me like a kid who's proud of his work, I made a poker face.

He cleared his throat and returned to writing his vow. Good thing that he knew his teacher wasn't pleased.

Pakiramdam ko, pinaglalaruan lang ako nito. Imposibleng hindi kaya ng isa sa mga top student ng Institute of Magis ang bagay na 'to. Katunayan, maning-maning lang 'to dapat sa kanya. Nanggagago lang 'to, e.

"I like myself better when I am with you," he vocalized again those that he had written.

"You're cheating. That's from Tuesdays with Morrie by Mitch Albom," I pointed out.
