“Are you two out of your minds ?!” You could hear Mrs Potts screaming even if you were waiting outside of her office. You always thought that she was the kind of woman to keep her cool in any circumstance. Maybe it didn’t apply when it was 2AM and people broke her trust. Weirdly enough, you were not the one in trouble. You couldn’t say the same about Sam and Bucky though.

The drive back had been quite silent. They told you not to say anything, and you gladly agreed. When you got back to work, in the middle of the night, Bruce, Happy and Mrs Potts were already waiting for you. Her daughter was there too, and you were told to stay with her while they were talking. No kids allowed, they said.

Even if Morgan was a cool kid, you had no reason to stay behind. You were not a child, and if they were talking about you, you surely had a right to be in the room with them. You began walking around, waiting for someone to call you, but the only one interested in you at the moment was the little girl on the couch.

“What did you do ?”

“I think I got myself in trouble.”

“My Dad did that a lot too.” She had a sad smile on her face and you felt bad for that little girl. Everything she had to go through at such a young age, and now she had been woken up in the middle of the night to go back to her mom’s work without knowing what was happening again.

“And how did he get away with it ?” You sat back next to her.

“He said something silly and he kissed her. Sometimes he took her to the restaurant too.”

“I’m not kissing your mother.” She faked a disgusted look and you laughed. “The restaurant might work, though. What’s her favourite food ?” She giggled and curled up on the couch. “How mad is she ?”

“She wasn’t angry. I think she was scared.” You should have never gone with Bucky. Why did you follow him anyway ? Even if it was possibly all his fault, you couldn’t help but feel guilty about all that.

All this time you had spent with Bruce helped you realize that you had done a lot of stupid shit with your power in your life. It never really mattered to you if people knew about it or not. And you were not remotely trained to use it.

When the time came to set up a list of objectives regarding your training, Bruce had you write down a list of all the times you had felt that your power was truly useful. In the end, you only wrote about the party from a few weeks back. You had never helped anyone except yourself before. Even if it ended with you on a bed in the lab, you knew that you did something good. Knowing that this senator could have been in trouble but you were the one to help, it felt good.

His office sent you flowers and a note. It was probably just about some problematic pictures about to be revealed to the public, but they were grateful. You had been useful to someone else.

Bruce told you that helping people had played a big role in him finally accepting the Hulk’s existence and eventually merging to be only one person. He didn’t see him as an enemy anymore, but as a part of himself. And only together they could act if anything was to happen. He talked about some of his friends too. How some of them turned their lives around just by being given the opportunity to finally do something good.

You looked at the door and let your mind wander inside the office. They weren’t talking loud enough for you to hear, but you could still try to get something from their minds.

How could they- I specifically told them to- We’re out. No more helping. At least no one got hurt. What if she really meant it ? All the people she could have saved. All gone because you didn’t stay home.
