We sit down at a nearby table and I move to sit on the side facing Billie. I don't know why, but I just like to watch her.

That adorable girl.

"What are you looking at?" Mia asks, and I quickly turn back to her, unsure of what to say.

Mia turns around to see, "Billie? That's who you're staring at? I would have thought Brad was behind me or something."

I let out an awkward laugh, "Pssh, no, I was looking at the.. bush! Yeah! The maintenance people did a really good job, um, shaping it."

"Sure..."she trails off.

We sit in silence after that moment, still taking our time to wake up before class.

I continue to watch Billie, seeing her smile every few seconds as she leans back to take a look at the page she's working on. I can't help but be curious as to what's in there, but I suppose it's private and I'll know when she tells me.

When she tells me?

Okay sure, when. I want to get to know her.

The bell for first period rings, and Mia and I get up from our spot, going our separate ways to our classes.

I usually sit in the front, participating in class and asking questions, but I decide to find a seat in the back, hoping Billie won't mind sitting next to me.

After I take my seat, more students file in and I watch each one of them, checking for the one I actually want to see.

When I see her, I smile and blush, turning to the notebook I've gotten out so she doesn't see me staring.

As I look down, I see a person standing next to me in my peripheral. They continue to stand and watch me, so I look up.

"S-sorry," Billie stutters, scratching the back of her neck with one hand, and firmly clutching her journal with the other, "I usually sit there."

"Oh!" the redness returns to my face and I quickly gather my things, preparing to move.

"Actually, you're fine, I was just being silly," Billie takes her seat next to me, and I find myself starting to get nervous with her being so close to me.

I must really want to be her friend.

Class begins, and I try my best to understand this confusing-ass math we are learning. I try really hard in school, but that does not mean I'm smart.

It takes me a long time and a lot of questions to understand most new subjects, and math is no exception.

I raise my left hand to ask yet another question, when I feel a hand softly touch my right arm that is resting on my desk.

"Put your hand down, I'll help you," Billie says quietly, gripping my arm a little.

I slowly lower my hand and turn to her, a surprised look on my face.

She smiles at me, "Why do you seem so surprised?" she asks, scrunching her nose.

Awww

"Oh, y-you just never talk this much," I say truthfully, "It's not a bad thing or anything," I continue, not wanting to offend her.

She chuckles, "I talk, just not here," she says the last part in a hushed tone, as if in realization of what she's doing. "What do you need help with?" she whispers.

I am about to speak when I'm cut off, "Ms. Eilish, what are you doing distracting Dez? This isn't your normal behavior."

Billie goes completely pale, falling over her words, "I- uh," she looks around the room frantically at all of the students staring at her, "I- sorry."

She sinks into her seat, pulling her hood over her head.

I'm not sure what to do, so I just turn back to the problem I was working on, too scared to try and talk to Billie again.

Class ends and I've gotten the help I need from the teacher. Billie leaves in a hurry and I instinctively run after her, following her to the bathroom.

She runs in and I quickly sneak in behind her, shutting the door.

She doesn't notice me and turns to the mirror, taking slow, shaky breaths. I want to say something but I can't, my words stuck in my throat.

Billie turns away from the mirror and lays her eyes on me, her focus traveling up and down my body in a steady rhythm.

I blush at the act and turn away, not sure what I'm feeling at the moment.

"Oh no, don't walk your own little self into a situation and suddenly back out. Why'd you follow me?" Billie says.

"I- uh, I was worried," I tell her.

Billie licks her lips, stepping closer to me, so I back against the wall, "No other reason?" she asks, seductively.

My breath hitches and my eyes widen, "What? What other reason would there be? I just w-wanted to make s-sure you were okay."

Billie smirks, "Whatever you say, Sweetheart."

She leaves the bathroom, the color having returned to her face, and I still stand against the bathroom wall, head spinning.

Sweetheart?

It sounded so much better coming out of her mouth than Brad's.

Eventually I am able to gather myself and leave the bathroom, heading to my next class.

My next couple of classes go by pretty quickly, and, by the time lunch rolls around, I haven't seen Billie at all.

Though I've thought about her plenty.

Something about her intrigues me. It's almost like I have this urge to be near her...or be her? Am I jealous of her? What would I be jealous of?

I lock eyes with Mia and shake my thoughts away, walking over to where we usually eat.

"Hey, what were you thinking about?" she asks, "You were just standing there for a while."

I quickly think of a lie, "Brad," I say in a dreamy voice, allowing a fake smile to crawl across my face.

Mia smirks, "He's right over there, now's your chance to ask him out."

My face goes pale, "N-now?"
