"This power given to me by the Alpha, I will show you your true self!"

There was a flash of dark purple light as a pokemon was released into the throne room. A regal purple scaled bird pokemon appeared, it's long lavender tail flowing behind it as the bird pokemon hovered in the air. Its menacing icy gaze was fixated on me, its eyes unmoving from where I stood.

"Articuno, a pokemon you've seen before, yet this variant is all the more stronger than the original. Your death is waiting for you, Aaron."

I gritted my teeth, reaching for a pokeball as I looked out over the battlefield. Articuno's aura glowed a deep purple, giving off an icy cold feel.

As I looked to the King's aura behind his pokemon, it matched his pokemon's. Both auras were cold and unnatural, extremely different to the usual light blue auras of the people of the overworld. I focused my eyes, feeling the similarities between the auras of Articuno and its trainer and my left eye. All three gave off an indescribable cold, ominous feeling, something that I couldn't quite put my finger on.

I shook my head, calling on my first pokemon. Dragapult emerged from his pokeball, silent in the darkness. The stealth pokemon kept its steel gaze on Articuno, analysing his opponent.

"Dragapult, we start off strong. Use fire blast!"

"Shadow ball to counter."

The stealth pokemon took the initiative, launching a scorching wave of heat across the throne room, Articuno standing by for the right moment to counter. There was a clash of smoke as the cruel pokemon fired a storm of shadowy energy, neutering Dragapult's first attack.

But we weren't done there. The dragon pokemon didn't need the call to make the next move, phasing into the air. As the smoke cleared, I noticed a conniving grin on the taller man's face. The King didn't make a call, only raising his right arm, gesturing for his pokemon to make a move.

An icy cold gale swept through the air and I had to brace myself for the intense snowstorm. Articuno's blizzard attack was relentless but I knew Dragapult would be safe in the shadow dimension, biding his time to attack.

Then a piercing shriek rang through the throne room, the stealth pokemon dropping to the floor. As the freezing wind dissipated, I saw the injuries on Dragapult's scales, seeing that the ice move had connected.

"It seems I overestimated you. Phantom force? In the Distortion World? Hah! I can see through these fake dimensions, that won't work here Aaron."

Dragapult sensed the urgency of the situation, returning to the battle in a split second. I looked from Articuno back to the stealth pokemon, realising I didn't have a strategy to deal with an opponent who saw through Dragapult's greatest asset.

Hesitantly, I returned the dragon pokemon back to his pokeball, knowing that I needed more time to think of a successful strategy for him. I paused for a moment, now understanding how troublesome of an opponent the King was, seeing his power firsthand.

"Ninetails, we'll end this quick."

The snow fox emerged from her pokeball, a serene breeze flowing through the air. Articuno must have sensed something in Ninetails, letting out a sharp cry as the snow fox stepped forward.

"Switching out won't save you now. Articuno, freezing glare."

"Moonblast to counter!"

A dense blast of purple energy flew through the air, Ninetails countering with her own attack. The sphere of bright mystical energy collided with the psychic move, Articuno's move piercing through Ninetail's attack with ease.
