"Spiritomb, mega evolve!"

A blinding white light engulfed the blue spirit pokemon, the odd keystone breaking apart under the immense weight of Spiritomb's mega form. As the light faded, the swirling purple souls had become a glowing ruby red, the spirit pokemon's wrath overflowing from its body. The blue mist had grown in size, Spiritomb's expression now one of pure anger. Two huge claws sprouted from out of the sides of the keystone, our opponent's aura vibrating violently in the dark room.

"We still have more to give, Dragapult use hydro pump!"

"Counter with poltergeist."

As the dragon pokemon fired a torrential jet stream, the opponent was quick to respond, launching a mess of ghostly energy. Both attacks collided at the centre of the throne room, Dragapult bursting through with his superior speed.

"Now draco meteor!"

"Use dream eater."

The moment Dragapult readied himself to launch his attack, he was overcome by a wave of psychic energy. His fatigue was starting to add up as the stealth pokemon crashed to the floor.

But he was quick to return to the battle, not letting up just yet. We were yet to go all out and Dragapult was as determined as me to not let our advantage slip out of our grasp.

"Spiritomb use phantom force."

"Phantom force to counter Dragapult!"

In a flash, both pokemon vanished into the air, the throne room becoming silent. Then there was a deafening crash from somewhere around the room. The room was empty, both pokemon battling in the shadow world.

I strained my eyes to focus on their auras, trying to keep up with the intense battle. There was another collision, one of the black stone pillars crumbling as a pokemon was thrown into it.

As I focused my eyes, I followed Dragapult's intense glow. His superior speed allowed the battle to remain close even with Spiritomb's dominant strength. Once again, there was a crashing sound, one of the walls caving in as one of the ghost types smashed into the wall.

Then, both pokemon emerged from the shadow world, both collapsing to the floor. Spiritomb recovered quickly but as I looked back to Dragapult, he was unable to continue the battle. This was his third fight of the battle and I was already more than thankful that he had lasted so long against such strong opponents.

I returned the dragon pokemon to his pokeball, thanking him for holding out for so long. As I looked back to the field, Spiritomb didn't look like it had broken a sweat. Mega evolution was really something but for the King to use his secret weapon this early in the fight meant that he still had much more up his sleeve.

"Sceptile, it's your time again."

There was a flash of light as the forest pokemon emerged from his pokeball. He stood silent on the black stone floor, analysing his opponent with his watchful eyes. Sceptile nodded toward me, showing that he was ready to avenge Dragapult's defeat.

"Alright, we're going all out early! Use earthquake!"

"Poltergeist to stop them."

Without hesitating, Sceptile brought his foot down, causing the entire palace to shake violently. Rubble started to break off from the lofty roof, some pillars now on the verge of crumbling away. Spiritomb fired a mess of shadowy energy but a section of the roof collapsed, blocking the attack for us.

Sceptile wasn't done there. As the palace came to a rest, the forest pokemon surged forward, the blades on his arms glowing a fluorescent green. In the blink of an eye, Spiritomb was thrust to the floor for a second time.
