CHAPTER NINE

"Oh, that really hurts!" Lance grumbled, rubbing his head.

I swiftly gave him a firm smack on the arm, making his face turn red, whether from shame or irritation.

"You deserve it, Idiot!" I snapped back, unable to contain my frustration.

The noise drew the gaze of almost everyone in the classroom. Lyzza, clearly shocked by my reaction, covered her mouth in surprise.

"Hoy!

The pressures and complications of relationships felt like a heavy burden, making me feel trapped and stifled. I sought comfort in being alone, avoiding the added complexities of having a boyfriend. The idea of my classmates getting into relationships only made me feel more confined and restricted.

Ayoko magka-jowa sa kaklase!

"Shit! That really hurts! What kind of hand was that?" he said, clearly annoyed, still shaking his head from the pain.

"It hurts, Shain! Give me that medicine," he grumbled, still clearly in discomfort.

Tiningnan ko siya ng masama. “Anong gamot ba gusto mo?”

"Kisspirin." Pabaranbadong sagot nito at nakuha pa niya ngumisi.

It's lunch break, so we headed to the covered court to hang out. Lyy and I were already full, so we didn't feel like eating.

"Want a banana cue, Shain?" Kenzo offered as Lyy and I approached him, carrying some junk food.

"Oo naman. 'Di ako tumatanggi sa biyaya." Sagot ko naman kay Kenzo. Kinuha ko naman ang binibigay niyang pagkain.

"Thanks, but I'm still full," Lyy replied calmly.

Lyzza had been quiet since we started walking earlier. I wanted to ask her what was on her mind, but I was worried it might upset her further. I knew Lyzza would confide in me when she couldn't hide her feelings or problems anymore.

Lyzza carried her own burdens. Sometimes, we'd notice bruises on her hands, the corners of her lips, and especially on her legs. Whenever we asked, her response was always the same answer. Nakipagbasagan daw siya sa ulo.
