I had found an old, black book in my father's library that I wasn't supposed to enter, but I did anyways.

The book looked neat, but it turned out to be written in an old language that I didn't understand.

However I looked at the pictures. There was a weird star on the pictures, with candles at its ends.

That looked interesting. I decided to rebuild it. Once I was done I looked at the letters.

"Attende, cave ante suspensus hominum spiritus." (Take heed, beware of hanged men's spirits, translated with google), I read. Then I continued with some weird sounding words I could barely say until all the candles blew out at once, but I could still see, for some reason.

I suddenly noticed a figure that was close to me. There was a dripping noise coming from the scheme.

It didn't look like it was standing, more like hanging from the ceiling.

"Excuse me?", I asked into the darkness. I only now realized that it was luminated by the star on the ground. Fucking thing was glowing!

I took a few steps towards the figure, but suddenly it turned to me and smiled.

It was an insane grin with sharp teeth and blood dripping down its chin.

Suddenly it was gone and the room was like it had been before. I quickly cleaned up and went to my father with the book.

"You didn't read any of these out loud, right?", he asked worriedly when I had explained how I had took the book, but couldn't read it.

"What would happen if I did?", I asked quietly.

Father shook his head. "This is a book about ghosts and demons, you might summon one of these evil spirits."

Suddenly there was a loud crashing sound and I could hear an insane laugh.

When I looked at father his eyes had rolled back and there was blood dripping from his mouth. He was hanging from the ceiling by a pitch black rope.

I screamed and covered my eyes, until someone shook me.

I took my hands away.

Father was standing in front of me, very much alright and looking worried.

"Lloyd, are you alright?", father asked. I shook my head violently.

"Daddy I read something out loud with the star and...and you were just hanging from the ceiling and...and", I sobbed out.

Father moved back, opened the book and showed me the page I had been using.

"This one?", he asked in a very serious tone and I could tell he was mad.

I nodded.

"How could you be so stupid?! You summoned the hanged man's spirit! An ancient ghost of a murderer!", father yelled.

"I didn't know!", I cried out, then added,"why would that be in a book?!"

Father took a deep breath. "Usually you would send it to torture and kill your enemy.", he explained.

"I don't have enemies, I'm twelve!", I yelled back.

"That's not my fucking problem! If you don't send it to kill somebody it will kill everyone, probably including you!", father growled.

I started crying, which made him turn away. "Get out, Lloyd. Take your stuff and go to the next monastery, it's not far from here. Ask for Sensei Wu and better start praying.", father then told me.
