‘You have to learn the rules of the game. And then you have to play better than anyone else’ –Albert Einstein

Adrian POV

It started off as a normal morning, as normal as things can be with Penny at least. The sun was shining, the birds were singing and Penny was yelling at Mason and Will trying to explain the inner workings of pancake making. Meanwhile Caine was watching with an amused expression and Ash was reading a book called ‘A Tale of Two Cities’, some old classic apparently.

“Forget about the pancakes!” Mason yelled, “Let’s just play a game instead.”

“What game? I don't really know any,” Caine asked.

“Ash!” I shouted, trying to get her attention. To wrapped up in her book she didn't take any notice of it. Everyone started yelling then and still she didn't notice.

“ASHLEY ELIZABETH SUMMERS!” Penny yelled in her ear. Apparently she heard that because she abruptly fell off the stool she was sitting on. Being the nice friends we are everyone cracked up laughing while Ash sent us all death glares.

“What was that for?” she hissed.

“We need to play a game, fiammella,” I informed her.

“And?”

“You are picking the game.” Ash considered this before an evil smirk appeared on her face.

“Should we be worried?” Will mumbled.

“Quite possibly Will because we are playing Sardines,” she said.

“Sardines?” Caine frowned. Penny gasped.

“Have you never played Sardines before?” she questioned.

“Never,” he replied.

“It is pretty much hide and seek except that only one person hides. When the ‘seekers’ find the person hiding they hide with them until the last ‘seeker’ finds them and then there is a new ‘hider’,” she explained.

“It sort of sounds like you are explaining Quidditch,” Ash pointed out.

“True. Anyway, who is going to be hiding?” Penny asked.

“Mason can,” Will said.

“That is fine with me,” she shrugged, “Now you better run Mason because we are now counting.”

As Mason dashed off I wondered why we were playing this game, it was designed for a five year old! Soon enough we were all spreading out and combing the house for Mason. I looked under tables and beds for a few minutes before finally finding Mason hidden inside a cupboard. He was grinning like Cheshire Cat too.

“Move,” I grunted, making him shuffle over as far as he could. Not even a few minutes after Ash found us.

“Mason!” she whisper yelled, “Couldn't you have found a larger hiding place?”

“This was the best I could find!” he whispered back. Eventually we shuffled  around until we could all fit in the small cupboard.

“Adrian! Move your foot out of my face!” Mason complained.

“It's your fault we’re stuck in here!” I hissed.

“Both of you need to shut up!” Ash said, her voice muffled by my shirt. When we stopped whispering my thoughts couldn't help wandering towards what happened on the beach yesterday. I was insanely jealous when he was talking to her alone, anything could have happened! If he had made any move on her I would have beat him up, friend or not, and then kissed her myself. It's a very caveman thought but it's what I think anyway. It was pure torture being this close, having her body pressed against mine, to Ash but not being able to kiss her senseless
