'Doors are for people with no imagination’ –Skulduggery Pleasant
After my sudden outburst nothing out of the ordinary happened. Everyone left on Saturday afternoon leaving Sunday for reading and homework. What can I say? I like being antisocial. Now that it was Monday I had to get ready for school and that thought did not appeal to me. My parents work had accumulated dramatically and so extended the time away from home. Which meant that that I was home by myself once again for another week. I must once again mention that I loved my parents to no ends, it’s not their fault that their work takes up so much of their time. I, praise the Lord, managed to make it to school with these thoughts without being kidnapped by a ‘certain’ someone. Not mentioning any names but they have the initials of A.F.
Penny met me by my locker just before class.
“I still can’t believe you left me with The Idiots on the weekend!” she complained.
“How Was I supposed to know?” I replied innocently. She groaned.
“Are you going to at least tell me why you made your early departure?”
“Nope.” I said, popping the ‘p’.
“Please!”
“Ask Caine, Adrian told him.”
“Why Caine?” Penny whined.
“Because Adrian will be with me studying Chem whereas Caine is completely free and you seem to have formed an attachment of sorts to him.”
“An attachment of loathing maybe, but not what you were trying to insinuate.”
“Whatever keeps you happy Penaynay.” By now we were at the Chemistry classroom. We went to our usual seats just as the bell went and Mr Jones came in. I mentally laughed, only half the students were actually in class and everybody knows that if you come into class after the teacher its an automatic after school detention. That’s why Penny and I shared a not so secret smirk and some self congratulations when all the late comers got given detentions.
“Ashley how is tutoring with Mr Forsyth?” Mr Jones called out of the blue. How to answer that question was disputable.
“It’s not good unfortunately, Adrian is worse than we thought and I fear that without enough attention he could fail his exam.” There, an acceptable answer that wasn’t exactly a lie.
“Well it would be good news to say that Mr Forsyth had landed himself a full day of detention wouldn’t it?”
“That is good news Mr Jones.”
“It is because you can spend the day teaching him in detention. I will inform your teachers of this development of your schedule regarding today.” Save me now. A full day teaching an uncooperative Adrian and in detention no less. The gossip will go out of control and I will be the victim of all the attention! I don’t much choice though, Mr Jones already has his mind made up.
“Thank you Mr Jones, I shall go immediately.” I shared a panicked look with Penny before forcing myself to walk out of the classroom.
The detention room was at the far end of the school and so it took about 5 minutes of my fast walking to get there.
“Of course he had accomplices in whatever crime he committed this morning.” I groan as I enter the detention room.
“Whatever made you think that he did it alone Ash?” Mason said cheerfully.
“What did you do to get banished to this corner of the school for the whole day?” I ask.
