Penny POV
I hoped that Adrian valued his balls because if he didn't fix things with Ash within the next week he wouldn't have any. They haven't been speaking for a few weeks and school goes back tomorrow so who knew what kind of rumours would spread around the school if they ignored each other. Not to mention that Ash looked and acted like a right mess, their little chat clearly went down like a full teaspoon of Vegemite. Which is to say not at all well. She seemed to get worse everyday and now I was at my wits end, it was time to interrogate Ash.
I managed to convince her to come down to the local park with me when I promised to share some of my stories from when I was in Australia.
"So Penaynay," she started, "What is it that you miss most about Australia?"
"The beaches and how I could go surfing every morning," I answered immediately as we sat down on the swing set.
"What were your friends like?" Ash asked.
"Nonexistent, I preferred my own company. Less chance of a friend stabbing you in the back if there is only you. And when did this turn into an interrogation?"
"When you said you would answer questions willingly. Favourite Australian animals?"
"DROP BEARS!" I shouted over excitedly, "Also numbats, dugongs, bilbies and the Easter Bunny."
"The Easter Bunny?" she said, confused.
"Have you never seen Rise of the Guardians?" I whispered, horrified that she didn't know what I was talking about.
"Oh, that Easter Bunny," Ash replied and we lapsed into a comfortable silence where I had a conversation with myself. It went something like this:
Me: When should we tell Ash what an idiot she's being?
Devil: Now then she can hate you for longer and love me the most.
Me: We are the same person idiot, if she hates me she'll hate you too.
Devil: Really? I never would have known, I thought that we were two different entities.
Angel: Wait a little longer, don't ruin what little happiness she has back.
Me: I don't know, I should probably get it over and done with but-
Devil: HOLD UP! That kid in the red shirt has sushi, where can we get sushi? I'm hungry.
Angel: Sushi? Really? What about the perfect cupcake that girl is holding? That is what I want to eat.
Me: Guys-
Devil: Sushi forever!
Angel: Cupcakes!
Me: Listen you two-
Devil: I wonder what Caine's favourite food is.
Angel: Yeah, that drool worthy boyfriend of ours must have a favourite food.
Devil: I bet it's something like steak.
Angel: No! Hamburgers will be his favourite food.
Me: LISTEN UP! I need your support if I'm going to yell at Ash so shut up and pay attention!
Their responses were cut off as Ash broke the silence.
"You didn't just ask me here to tell stories about your past, Penny. What do you really want to tell me?" She said softly.
"You bet I didn't just call you here to tell stories. I came here to tell you what an idiot your being! What ever happened between you and Adrian is not my business but when my two of my best friends stop talking for weeks just half a day after they kissed it becomes my business!" I yelled angrily, surprising a few of the surrounding children.
"You don't know what you are talking about, Penny. I suggest that you stop talking before you say something you regret."
"That's where you're wrong, Ash, I won't say anything I'll regret because you deserve everything that I throw at you. You can't see it but since Adrian and yourself stopped talking both of you have gone into a kind of depression. You can't get your nose out of your books at all and Adrian won't stick his head outside his bedroom doors."
"It was not my fault, he was prying where he shouldn't have been and so he got what he deserved," Ash said coldly.
"And what was that? A broken heart? Because that is where you are both heading at the moment," I spat.
"Broken heart you say. I don't even know what love is let alone love someone else. Besides, no one could love a broken girl like me." After that I laughed humourlessly.
"It's so damn obvious that you two love each other but neither of you can see it. You are an idiot for letting him go and I will be damned if you two throw each other away because you argued!" I shouted.
"We did more than argue!" Ash shouted back, "He is wasting his time helping me, nothing can, and no one can know the full truth of my past!"
"Why? He knows you better than you know yourself! He is already fixing you whether or not you know it! I have not known you for long but the girl I met on the first day and the girl I see now are much different. Hell, even I can pick when you have a mood swing even when you hide it! And if all you argued about was him helping you then you really do need help! Whoever taught you to be so self sufficient to the point where you refuse help was wrong!"
"I taught myself because I had to. Nothing more, nothing less," she replied coldly.
"If you were a guy you'd be well along the road of imminent castration because I can't handle this much longer! You need to get over this self sufficiency issue because one day it is going to come back and bite you right where it hurts the most. One day you will need the help of others but no one will come. Just remember that before it's too late."
"I believe I have an appointment now, so excuse me because I would hate to be late." Without waiting for a reply she stood up and walked off at a fast pace. I was beyond angry and to the point of pity, she needed to realise soon that she couldn't do everything by herself. She also needed to realise that she loved Adrian and act on it because he is the only one who she trusts. I was sure there was more that Adrian knew but why he kept it to himself I didn't know. Surely it couldn't be worse than the Claudia incident?
There you go, another chapter. This book is reaching the final stages, there is only 10 or 15 more chapters to go. What did you think of Penny's outburst? I'm sure that some of you hate me for turning Ash's friends away from her... but there is a resolution soon!
