an alternative universe where park chaeyoung is the president's daughter and jeon jungkook is her newly appointed bodyguard.

She never expected to develop feelings for him. Sure, he was handsome as hell and had a boy that both boys and girls could lust over, but love was not really something that was ever in her radar. Park Chaeyoung tread through the relationships in her life very carefully, knowing well of what it was like to have people only befriending you for your fathers connections, or for your money or even worse—publicity. Years of disappointment and anger slowly turned into her newfound tendency to doubt peoples intentions, whether it be her teachers, or neighbours or even the supermarket clerk at the check-out counter. Especially so that her father as the newly appointed President of the country, she couldn't help but feel more uncertainty when people would look her way, or question the genuinely in the smile across their lips.

Park Mason is a good man, but his win was not appreciated by everyone in the country. Corrupt elites and the old money families behind a historically oligarchy government meant that a new layer of protection was needed for not only him, but his wife and daughters included. And that was how Jeon Jungkook came into the picture, the son of one of the leading agents of South Korea. He was perfect for the role—an expert in multiple areas of combat, proficient in multiple languages and most importantly, he was young. Her father was worried at her constant exposure to old and powerful people and the consequence it may have in her development as a young teenager. He wanted her to enjoy her teenage years.

She remembers the first time she'd met him when she was only sixteen years old. He didn't smile. The young boy had a dead pan expression the entire time, even as he was standing behind her on the couch watching her favourite televisions series. That night, she cried to her father, telling him that she felt he was a robot. Her father told her that the younger boy was only here to protect her and that he'd slowly open up.

He did.

A few months later she's on a field trip in Paris and when she gets lost in the crowd and has her handbag snatched in the madness, she feels a strong arm pulling her closer. She saw emotions in his eyes that day—a light sheen of gloss in his eyes, small droplets of sweat across his forehead. Park Chaeyoung cried, telling him that she lost her bag and was scared of getting in trouble. He held her tight.

"It's okay, those things could be replaced. Your safety is the most important thing."

Jeon Jungkook never got angry.

Sometimes she'd get scolded by her tutor or the housekeeper, but he never did. And perhaps—that's why she fell in love with him in the first place.

It was the summer and the household had been really tense because of some scandals within her father's cabinet. On the advise of his council, she was forbidden to leave the palace for a few months until the drama died down. Yet— what would be deemed as a mansion for ordinary people felt suffocating and she couldn't help but sneak out from the window and go to the closest bar. As she sat alone on the bar stool, a man approached her and offered to buy her a drink. She declined, but he persisted and perhaps, she wanted one too. But one drink turned into six and before she knew it, she was being dragged into an unknown car as she screamed into the void of night.

He came just in time, throwing a few punches before holding onto her securely. She thought he would yell at her, just as everyone did when Korea's golden girl did not fit the criteria but he didn't. He looked at her sincerely, wiping the tears from her face before pulling her hair behind her shoulders.

"Are you okay, Miss. Park?" His voice was low, "... can you walk to the car?"

She nods, and he reaches for her hand and walks a few metres to the black Mercedes.

"Please don't be angry with me," she whispers on the car ride back.

"It's okay, I know it's been a tough time. Next time, tell me, so I can be there to make sure you're okay. We could've gone for a drive to clear your head, you didn't need to go to places like that," he responds.

It was at that moment that her heart felt something it never had before.

Love.

Park Chaeyoung was falling in love.
