the minute soojin professionally dropped into her chair, the pen in her hand was doodling nonsense in the notebook she brought.

her mother was to her left, sitting at the head of the table. donna's posture was so straight it almost looked painful. a quick glance from the woman forced soojin to pull her shoulders back as well, folding her hands on the desktop.

there were maybe 6 or 7 other people there, all older than the college student. some were drilling her with their pointed stares, but soojin didn't bat an eye. they didn't intimidate her in the slightest.

she looked away only after they turned their attention towards a smart board at the front of the conference room.

dropping her gaze towards her notepad, soojin continued doodling facial features on the lined pages, going more and more in detail with each drawing. she couldn't have been more bored.

"thank you, mr. wong. it's great to see that you are taking such good care of the china branch." she heard her mother say, voice feminine yet authoritative enough to send chills down her coworker's spines. "how are the others? have operations been running smoothly?"

"there is one issue we've been having to deal with, miss..." a woman began, and soojin looked up to see an older lady with thin glasses perched on the bridge of her nose. the ravenette turned back to her profane doodles.

soojin's pencil froze on the paper.

her head rose, scanning the group as they all nodded their heads, some wearing solemn expressions while others were visibly angered. her mother raised a brow, "what about them?"

a rosy-cheeked man two seats down from soojin cleared his throat, "we've caught some of nakamoto's employees, or 'spies', at our buildings; some applying for jobs and others buttering up to our workers. they're clearly trying to infiltrate."

"how unprofessional," another woman groaned, then quickly apologized for her attitude.

soojin hadn't moved since the glasses lady spoke, her eyes wide and expression unchanging. no way. yuta didn't know, right? he wouldn't do that to me...

abruptly rising to her feet, the young woman cleared her throat and excused herself, collecting her things despite her mother calling after her.
