chapter 44

movie - spider-man: no way home

•••

CHARLOTTE ALMOST FELT HERSELF suffocate as she watched the eldest Peter Parker become fully engulfed into the sand.

Just minutes prior, Charlotte was holding onto Peter as he swung around the statue. The youngest Peter was still fighting against the lizard, however, he was beginning to get the upper hand — slowly webbing the creature to the flooring.

The oldest Peter had somehow caught the attention of the sand man, and was slowly trapping him so they could cure him. Though, that soon made him realize that he was also becoming trapped.

"uh, guys," He awkwardly yelled out, "I'm— uhm— running out of space here, I could really use that cure right about now."

And with his words, everyone's attention went onto him — following towards the tornado of sand that was rushing in his direction.

"On it," Charlotte spoke back breathlessly, her throat remaining sore as the words left her lips. However, once she tried to loosen Peter's grip from her waist, the boy only held tighter.

"No," He stated abruptly, squeezing her closer to him. And Charlotte's heart quickened as his words muffled into her neck — making her immediately reattach her arms around the boy.

"He needs it, Pete."

and he nodded in response.

"You better have a good throw then."

Charlotte's eyes squinted in confusion at his words, though, he didn't see it. It was only once Charlotte glanced around and saw the youngest Peter following pursuit, continuously glancing towards the duo as he kept an open hand out, when she realized.

"Oh... Damn, okay."

The angle was more than awkward as Charlotte slightly pushed herself up from Peter's grip, angling her arm back as she aimed for the youngest. Her confidence was nowhere high, though, she ignored that feeling as she pushed her arm forward — watching as the cure now freely flew in the air.

And as the youngest's web connected with the cure, safely bringing it into his grasp, Charlotte let out a hoarse breath.

"thank fuck."

"language."

A small laugh, followed by a smack, and then a quiet 'ow' all happened in a matter of seconds, and Charlotte lowered herself into the comfort of his grasp — keeping her eyes on the oldest.

Charlotte's Peter angled them toward the statue, and with a harsh thump, the two landed in unison — watching as the oldest became engulfed in the sand.

"He doesn't have the cure yet," She spoke quietly, her eyes now looking for the youngest.

"But he will," Peter responded immediately, gently grasping her chin to look in the opposite direction. And as the two watched, the youngest Peter chucked the cure aimlessly into the pit of sand — and with all their relief, the oldest's hand shot out, catching it easily.

and he released the cure.

It was almost blinding once the cure had taken its course — especially as it basically exploded in his hand, painting a sunny glow in all directions.

Charlotte winced at the sight herself, and she did not shy away from hiding her eyes in the crook of Peter's neck. And he easily followed pursuit, using one of his gloved hands for his eyes as the other went straight for hers.

The surrounding area grew rather quiet for a moment, and as the three did not move — they were easily able to tell that the wind, which was once very harsh, died immensely. In actuality, it was completely gone,

along with the sand.

The sight of the eldest Peter was still nonexistent, and the blonde couldn't help but feel slightly worried for a moment. Despite the sand no longer showing its presence, Charlotte, nor the others, actually knew if the cure would work. And even if it had, she couldn't help but worry that the lack of sand could've made him fall further than expected — leading him to land painfully.

the thought made her tense.

she already experienced it once.

"Peter!"

Her shout did not go unnoticed by the others, however, they already knew who it was directed at — so they said nothing in response.

And they patiently waited. They waited for a sound or any type of movement to occur in the oldest Peter's direction. But as it stayed wearily quiet in response, Charlotte began to get flashbacks of just months before.

of emery.

Charlotte's changing emotions did not go unnoticed by the boy beside her, and as he instantly knew where her mind had went — he pulled her closer to him, stopping the slight tremble that escaped her body.

"it's okay, he's okay."

And that's when he finally appeared.
