It had happened so quickly that even Issei had nearly missed it.
A cloud of mist rolling through during a regular extermination mission. A black cloaked figure deflecting an attack that had been launched at Rias by an unseen foe. Just as quickly as they arrived, they were gone again. Rias' face told the story, there was something she had neglected to tell everyone. The truth was stranger than Issei had expected.
"I didn't know there was another vampire here," he sighed, reclining on one of the clubroom's red couches.
"I-I'm only half-vampire," Gasper reminded him.
"He's... different," Rias admitted diplomatically. "He came from a high-class vampire family, but when the two sides of their race split into differing factions – he fell into the custody of my father. It was only when I started attending this academy that I learned he was even guarding me."
"Isn't that a little sad?" Asia asked, "I've never seen him inside the clubhouse before."
"I've given him permission, but he prefers to stay at arm's length," Rias explained, "To be truthful, I've only spoken a few words with him in the two years that I've known about him."
"A full vampire huh? He sounds cool," Issei smirked. He found himself deeply curious about the mysterious figure who flashed across the battlefield like a spectre. Unbeknownst to the rest of the Occult Research Club, Asia had already started to formulate a plan to meet the man herself.
Asia snuck away from Issei's home in the late hours of the evening.
It felt strange returning to the school when nobody else was there. Rias and Akeno had stayed behind to complete some extra work for the club, so the lights inside the clubhouse were still on. You saw her coming from a mile away, or perhaps it's more accurate to say that you heard her. She is a stunning beauty, with blonde hair and green eyes. Asia. You know all of Rias' peerage well. You observe her for a moment, shuffling nervously in front of the stairs. She doesn't even know where you are.
"You shouldn't be sneaking around here so late – you'll catch a cold."
The blonde nun squeaks in shock and turns to face you, perching atop the awning at the entrance to the clubhouse. "V-Vampire-san!"
You laugh, "Vampire-san?"
"I don't know your name..."
You knew that she was looking for you. You have very sensitive ears – nothing gets said in this building without you knowing about it. You can hear a pin drop through solid walls if you focus on your surroundings. You decide to oblige her and let slip your namesake.
She claps her hands together and smiles with a practiced cadence, "That's a wonderful name."
"They'd probably have a few problems with me still calling myself that, but they can go die in a fire for all I care."
"Hm?"
You sigh and launch into a proper explanation, "When you're a vampire, you just can't win. Everyone wants you to pick a side. You're not allowed to do what you want or you're 'tainted' forever. I'm persona non grata ever since the Gremory family took me in. I'm not technically a member of my own family anymore."
Asia looks like she's about to break out into tears. You hold up your hands, "Hey, no need to cry over me. I came to terms with that a long time ago. Shit happens, and this gig isn't so bad anyway. I just have to keep an eye on the redhead, stop anybody from trying to assassinate her."
