Jimin necked a large helping of whiskey and banged the crystal glass onto the table.

On a scale of one to ten, this shitty day was unquestionably an eleven.

'What?' he snapped when Namjoon glared at him over the top of his laptop and Jin cupped his phone receiver to brusquely shush him.

At least Suga had the decency to mind his own business, nursing the freshly stitched egg on the back of his head instead of giving him a hard time about his irritation.

He had every right to be irritated.

On the off chance that the vortex had been opened somewhere within the estate, he and Jin had overturned every scrap of soil in the gardens and searched every water feature inside and out, while Namjoon and a groggy Suga checked the fireplaces and dug through the ash residue in the furnace.

There was no sign of the stone. Why would there be? Taehyung wasn't stupid enough to let them follow that easily.

Neither of his men seemed to grasp the concept, though. They'd congregated in the library after an hour of digging up nothing, and proceeded to make useless enquiries to every important person this side of the Indian Ocean.

Tracking Taehyung's cell phone as if he was somewhere in the city.

Calling the port authorities to see if they'd left on a ship.

A fucking ship.

No wonder he needed a stiff drink to take the edge off.

'I told you not to bother,' Jimin rumbled as Jin rudely hung up and Namjoon thumped his laptop shut. 'You think Taehyung left the country? He currently holds a passport to leave the fucking planet.'

'They're only trying to help,' Suga croaked from where he was sprawled on a bright green bean bag.

Had Suga not been nursing a nasty cut brought on by Taehyung, Jimin would have smothered him with a softback novel. He was pissed at the man for losing Yunhee while under his charge, but he had to remind himself that he was not the only one to blame for missing the obvious.

Taehyung had fooled them all.

'We need to find the stone,' Jimin muttered, his shoulder blades protruding through his shirt as he clenched his fists against a bookshelf. 'Yunhee's not...she's not in this world.'

No one spoke, but Jimin heard their silent thoughts as if they were screaming them into his earhole.

More chance of discovering a white cat in a snowstorm!

It'll be like trying to find a needle in a haystack!

Impossible odds! Impossible odds! Impossible odds!

'I still don't get how he did it,' Jin conveniently changed the subject, patrolling up and down an aisle with his fingers glued to his charcoal locks. 'Taehyung knew things about Yunhee. Things he couldn't possibly know unless they were in a relationship.'
