with everyone reunited in the same place, around the fountain, after days the discussion started about the mind flayer: the creature from the upside down which and managed to turn itself into a large mass of goo, or melted
bodies.

"the mind flayer, it built this monster in hawkins, to stop el, to kill her and pave a way into our world." mike explained.

"and it almost did. that was just one tiny piece of it." nancy added.

"how big is this thing?" hopper questioned.

"it's big." jonathan answered. "thirty feet, at least."

"yeah." lucas agreed. "it sorta destroyed your cabin. sorry."

hopper sighed at that, el and adella either side of him, the younger girl leaning on his lap, drained. adella wondered if the damage on the cabin was fixable but by the sound of the size of the mind flayer currently, it might not be possible to fix their home.

"okay, so, just to be clear, this... this big fleshy spider thing that hurt el, it's some kind of gigantic... weapon?" steve asked.

"yes." nancy nodded.

"but instead of, like, screws and metal, the mind flayer made its weapon... with melted people." steve mused.

"yes, exactly." nancy agreed as if it was normal, which at this point, nothing should really shock the group.

"yeah, okay. i- yeah, i'm just making sure." steve stuttered.

"are we sure this thing is still out there, still alive?" joyce quizzed.

"el beat the shit out of it, but, yeah, it's still alive." max spoke up.

"but if we close the gate again-"

"we cut the brain off from the body." max said, cutting will off.

"and kill it." adella mumbled.

"theoretically." lucas added.

"yoo-hoo!" murray suddenly yelled, waving sheets of paper around his head and adella nearly laughed. "yoo-hoo!" they gathered around a table and he placed the papers down to explain. "okay, this is what alexei called 'the hub'. now, the hub takes us to the vault room."

"okay, where the gate?" hopper asked.

"right here." murray pointed. "i don't know the scale on this, but i think it's fairly close to the vault room, maybe 50 feet or so."

"more like 500." erica corrected. "what, you're just gonna waltz in there like it's commie disneyland or something?"

"i'm sorry, who are you?" murray questioned as hopper's eyebrows rose in shock at the small child.

"erica sinclair. who are you?" erica demanded.

"murray... bauman." he replied.

"listen, mr. bunman, i'm not trying to tell you how to do things, but i've been down in that shithole for 24 hours. and with all due respect, you do what this man tells you, you're all gonna die." erica stated.
