[Dean's POV]

Al dropped his cigarette on the ground and stomped on it grumpily. "I don't understand why just because you two quit, I have to as well."

Jay smirked. "Because you're a good friend"

"Wish I wasn't sometimes," He mumbled before letting out a sigh and leaning back on the tree. We were sat outside the cafeteria and since it hadn't snowed recently, the ground was dry.

"Where is she?" I mumbled, checking my phone for a text from Cass.

"Oh, she was talking to Mariah. I passed by them on my way here," Jay said, picking at the crust on his sandwich. "I can't believe mom still leaves this crap on. I'm not Janie."

"You sure? I think you could pull off looking like her twin sister instead of her little brother," I teased, chuckling when he shot me a glare and throwing a piece of crust at me.

"Fuck off, Bolton."

I was about to retort when I caught sight of Cass walking out the door, her phone pressed between her ear and shoulder while she searched her bag for something.

"-honestly, C. You can't go wrong with a simple molten cake. No. No. Don't be an idiot." She sighed and dropped in front of us, pulling a sandwich out of her bag and tossing it towards me. I caught it as she moved the phone to her other ear and continued the conversation.

"Why don't you ask Karl to help? What do you mean 'you can't'? I'm not telling you to sleep with him, I'm telling you to be his friend, for now at least. Don't shove your feelings at him, it's going to push him away. Yes, ask him. Well if he says no, you can bake one of those microwavable ones and share it with him later. You're welcome. Let me know how it goes. Alright, bye."

Cass hung up looking amused.

"Carter having boy trouble?" Al asked, making her shake her head.

"Not exactly. He just wanted some advice."

I bit into my sandwich and hummed at the taste of the bacon. "Don't you have anything to eat?" I asked Cass.

"I already ate mine on my way here. I was hungry."

A few minutes later, my phone vibrated in my pocket. I tossed the last bite into my mouth and dug it out, frowning when I saw the caller ID.

"Dad? What is it?"

"Get home right now. It's an emergency," He said before abruptly hanging up. I shot up from the ground, brushing off some of the crumbs from my clothes and extending my hand to Cass. She grabbed it and stood up looking confused.

"What happened?" Jay asked, visibly concerned.

"I don't know. He said it was an emergency. Come on, Babe. I'll call you guys later." I tightened my grip on her hand and we quickly made our way through the school and to the parking lot. I stopped in front of my Harley and swung my leg over it, wincing a little, and sitting as Cass followed my lead and sat behind me, wrapping her arms around my stomach. I started it and headed home.

It had been close to three weeks since I'd been injured and Cass finally said I could ride my bike so long as I wasn't alone and it wasn't too often.

I stopped in front of my house and braked hard, making Cass tighten her grip on me to steady herself. Getting off, I waited for her before walking to the front door. I stumbled for a second as I registered the presence of my brother's sedan parked carelessly in the driveway.

"Dean, I thought this was an emergency," Cass muttered, wrapping a hand around my bicep and tugging me forward. We got to the front door and I slid the key that was in my pocket in, announcing our arrival as we entered.
