JIMIN POV

"Gonna open it?" He asked my feet, clasping his hands behind his back.

"Yeah, okay, lemme do that." I unwrapped the heavy bulky object.

It was a mass of brown enveloped by clear plastic. A milk jug?

I held it by the handle and examined it. The jug full of something brown and viscous, with thick with pieces of potato and carrot floating in it.

"Ah, I'm holding a bottle of crap. How did you go this much. How were you so accurate. Why is it still warm."

"What? No, nothing like that." he shook his head and waved his hands.

"no". "It's beef stew. Family recipe. And why are your questions coming out as statements?"

I ignored him because food. "Oh em gee, it's homemade beef stew? In that case this is frickin' awesome, but care to explain why you put it in a milk jug? We gotta work on your presentation, bud."

He shrugged. "It was what I had."

"Also, this isn't strange or suspicious at all. Is the secret ingredient rat poison?"

Jungkook smiled again.

Openly. Flirtatiously? "Guess you won't know unless you try it."

"Buttface," I muttered.

"There's no way I'm turning down a free meal." I unscrewed the cap and sniffed at it.

The heavenly scent of slow-cooked meat and savory spices gave me a food high. I held the jug up to my lips and sipped at the stew; it was thick and hearty, but still easy to down like this.

The taste was rich, the spices perfectly balanced, the chunks of beef tender and succulent.

"Okay, I might be seeing things your way. Delicious-ass stew in a portable jug? This is my kind of party. Why give it to me, though?"

Jungkook's green doe eyes traced the ground, his thick eyebrows crunching together. He's hiding something.

"Uh, had some extra. I would say give some to tae, too, but now your mouth germs are all in it."

"You wish you had my mouth germs, buddy."

"Gross." He smiled at me again, a little more openly, and his eyes crinkled at the corners.

Why did it make me want to throw a parade?

"Thanks, Jungkook," I said sincerely.

Jungkook simply nodded, the corners of his mouth turned down as if to say, it was nothing. I upended the jug and poured more stew into my mouth.

It was glorious. I didn't care if it was poisonous, 'cause it was so damn good I'd die happy.

I contemplated burying the hatchet with Jungkook. Maybe he wasn't so horrible after all.

Maybe he was steaming hot and had a scent that hit you like a southbound train and maybe he was flirting.

Probably not, though. I didn't have to save myself from my stupid little fantasies because they were exactly that. Fantasies.

I crossed the hall and met up with Tae Student at Union's lobby, my Adam's apple working as I walked in gulping from the jug.

"What the hell is that." Tae said flatly.

"It's this awesome new invention, stew in a jug. Dude, like, you have no idea how awesome. I'm thinking about applying for a patent."

he was sitting at a table with his palms face down on the surface in front of him, giving me an unimpressed look.

"Why do you have that."

"Why are all your questions coming out like statements?" I said, avoiding the question.

"Oh. It's from Jeon Jungkook."

I let the heavy jug drop onto the table with a huge thud, then cocked a hip up and sat next to it.

"How did you know?"

"He's been giving you enough shit to fill a warehouse lately so I don't know, I took a wild guess."

"He said I should give you some." I grinned and tipped the jug opening toward him.

"Ugh, who knows how much back wash is in there by now. I love you but I don't love your mouth germs, bro."

"That's what he said." I giggled.

"Why is Jungkook discussing your mouth germs?"

"Telling me how gross they are. Jokes on him, and you, my mouth germs are great."

"You sound like Kindergarteners with cootie crushes." My face went hot.

"We are not!"

"He can't possibly be this sorry," Tae said, eyeing the stew.

"I know, right? He's even pulling his weight in our study group. I want to know what he's buttering me up for."

Taehyung mumbled something that sounded like "courtship?" but I knew I was hearing things. "What was that?"

"Don't you think this is kinda weird, bro? He's being nice to you, giving you stuff he knows you like, and now feeding you homemade food."

"He's making amends, that's all. Jeez, can't a man right his wrongs with a jug full of tasty beef stew?"

I waved the half-empty jug around for emphasis.

"If you say so," he said flippantly.

"Ugh, you're doing the thing."

"What thing?"

I waved a hand like I was shooing away a fly. "The thing where you have something to say but you know I'm not gonna like it because it's too logical."

"I mean..." tae lifted his arms as if to say, what do you want from me?

"And you're usually right, which I don't appreciate at all."

"You appreciate it a little."

"Not really, because I find out after the fact and that's not helpful."

Tae threw up his arms. "Because you never listen to me in the moment!"

"Exactly. I rest my case."

Surprised, he let out a laugh and punched my shoulder.

"You are impossible to argue with."

"The winner and still champion, but I'll let you get away with telling me your opinion. This time."

"Maybe he even wants to be, like, your friend? This almost seems like courtship behavior," he blurted.

"I wonder-" I panicked and stuck my fingers in my ears.

"Nah, nah, nah, nah, I can't hear you! I can't hear your gibberish because that's what it is, gibberish."

"This is not friendship behavior, and for the love of robots, this is not court ship behavior, this is the least Jeon can do becos we have a peace treaty!"

Tae sat back in his chair, laughing at me.

"Fine. We'll see. Pipe down and drink your meat juice."

"I will, Robot Master."

As we planned out our next club meeting, my mind wandered.

Courtship behavior didn't translate to courtship, and that's not ever what this was.

My chest was light with hope, but underlaid with a thick layer of fear.

Outside alphas were not to be trusted, especially not Jeon Jungkook.

So why was he tearing all my defenses down?
