Three months later.
Leo gasped as he woke up after being violently thrown into rigorous reaction time training.
"How'd I do?" He gasped, panting from the strain on his body over the past months.
General Monroe smiled as he looked at the hologram presented in front of him. "Showing lots of improvement. . . 23.8 seconds." he walked over to the side of the pod, seeing the fellow watch leader still out cold. Leo turned and heard a gasp from beside him. General Monroe shook his head, disappointed. "28.7 seconds Sylvia. I know you can do better. We've been at this for three months, and you've only improved by 10 seconds, whereas Leo over here," He gestured toward Leo, who was staring blankly at him. "Has improved by 34 seconds."
Sylvia scoffed as she fixed her hair. "Well yeah, but he was also waking up after like a minute, whereas I was always under a minute since the beginning."
"I don't want to hear your excuses, Sylvia." General Monroe said in an authoritative tone. Sylvia was scowling at him as he raised his eyebrows at her. "You know what I do want?" He paused as if she would answer. "Improvement!" He said with a loud clap, causing her to jump slightly in her seat, flinching away.
He then left to check all the other recruits who had their own personal timers assigned to their pods to track their improvement.
Most of the recruits averaged around 20-35 seconds, though there were a few horrible times, coming specifically from the younger recruits, times as long as 50 seconds to a minute.
After checking in with all of the timers, he returned to the watch leaders who were sharing light conversation. He cleared his throat, and their heads snapped toward him. "Today is an important day for all of you. It's also a free day until dinner, so enjoy your time." He slinked out of sight suspiciously, leaving the watch leaders somewhat confused.
After sitting silently for a few minutes, Sylvia stood up and steadied herself on the pod's side, still slightly dizzy from the recent training.
Leo struggled with the protective restraints and stood up next to her, not dizzy in the slightest for some odd reason. "Where are you going?"
"Umm, to our room. Duh." Sylvia replied, walking promptly out of the former gym.
Leo jogged lightly after her and walked next to her in the hallway. "Why?"
"Definitely not because he just said we have a free day." She replied sarcastically as she made her way up the glass stairs to the living quarters.
"Yeah, but, like, what is there to do in our room?"
"Sleep."
Weaving through the pods, Sophia and Eddie went to find Willow and Bruce, who had become an official couple soon after the first day of reaction time training.
Sophia found their relationship great. Both of them were happy and great for each other.
"I seriously can't believe I got stupid 27 seconds," Eddie complained, mainly because Sophia did better than him.
"Yeah, I can't believe I got an amazingly perfect 19 seconds." Sophia beamed, smiling widely at her accomplishment of having singlehandedly the best reaction time out of all the recruits.
"Shut up, loser," Eddie muttered, attempting to hide his smile by looking down.
Sophia scoffed. "Actually, I'm a winner." She replied before cackling evilly. Eddie gave her a look as if she was insane. This just caused her to laugh harder.
