Chapter 45

Surname

If there is one thing that I would thank Him for... It would be my life story. My destiny.

All lives are already written like a book. All of us are unfolding the pages, getting to know who we really are, and discovering what drives our fate.

And just like the characters, we have flaws...sometimes worse than what we can imagine. Just like the characters, we face the consequences of our decisions. Whether we do it for good that leads to bad or otherwise. In the end, it only matters how we handle everything that comes.

And as for me, I choose to respond in a positive way. I'm always trying to respond in a positive way.

My impulsiveness in the past made me fall. My stubbornness caused our downfall. I can't say that it's my decision alone. Kaming dalawa ni Deo.

And now, here's a second chance to make it alright. All the what-ifs are lingering, but this time I wonder why I am not afraid. I am not afraid of what will happen next.

Unashamed and feeling free to express what he feels by raising his hands to the sky, worshiping along with the crowd. Nothing beats that.

Which was rare. Kasi kadalasan pag ganito nagsisimba it's either nag-uusap habang may nagp-preach or something else.

Though there's one thing that I am concerned about. The preacher is speaking in Spanish.

Because for me it's pretty clear. I can understand each word without problems. Siya ang inaalala ko.

Sinundot ko ang braso niya. He just looked at me with both of his brows raised.

I sighed and leaned in to whisper in his ear intimately.

"Are you okay?" I asked.

"Yeah..." tango niya. "Why wouldn't I be?"

"Deo, the preaching is Español," I reminded him.

"Yo...yo se un poco," he answered slowly with a cheeky smile. 'I know a little.'

My eyes widened. "Are you learning it?"

"Ask me later please..." he pleaded whispering. "I'm currently focused on listening."

Natigilan ako sa sinabi niya. He's pretty serious about listening huh? That's rare.

I just shrugged and lent my ears to our Pastor Salvi in front.

The word was about commitment, loyalty, responsibility and importance of promises. Which was I think... in season. Well... that's the word I needed right now.

"Narinig mo yun?" he asked me when we were at the Manor.

"What?" I asked.

"The Word," ngiti niya. "Loyalty daw at commitment. Lahat ng nasimulan ay dapat marunong rin tayong panindigan—"

I cut him off. "—And every 'I love you' emits promises and commitment. The three words should never be taken lightly." I recited from my memory guiltily.
